The Arunachal Pradesh Govt on Tuesday entered into
an agreement with National Securities Depository Ltd
(NSDL), appointing it as a Central Record Keeping Agency
for adoption of National Pension System (NPS). The  MoU
was signed by Development Commissioner (Finance)
Ramesh Negi and Executive Vice President NSDL
Chandrashekhar Tilak in the presence of Secretary (Finance)
Swati Sharma, Asstt Manager NSDL Purvardh R. Pal,
Director of Accounts and Treasuries M Mongmaw, Jt.
Director of Accounts and Treasuries J.Tayeng, and other
officials from the Finance department. NPS is an initiative by
the Central Govt. and Arunachal Pradesh is the 26th state to
adopt it. With this, more than 6,160 employees, who have
joined State Govt services on or after 1st January 2008 will
be able to avail the NPS benefits.
An earthquake of moderate intensity today rocked the
entire NE region. The tremor was felt in Itanagar, Guwahati,
Agartala, Kohima and Imphal. There is, however, no  report
of any injury to people or damage to property. The quake,
measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, hit the region at around
7.12 AM.
The Arunachal Teacher’s Association welcomed the
decision of the State Government for rectification  and
subsequent order of pay anomalies of AT (A) and other
categories of teachers. The Association thanked the
government for its initiative. However, it has decided to
continue with the on going pen and tool down strike as other
demands such as one go regularization of 2003 batch SSA
Teachers have not been redressed. The first phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization
program in the administrative circles of Jairampur, Nampong
and Manmao has been fixed on January 17 instead of
Janaury 20 due to the ensuing Pangsau-Pass festival. The
District Task Force Committee held a meeting at the DC
Conference Hall to chalk out detailed program to carry out
the immunization program in Changlang successfully. ADC
Changlang, MC Roy appealed the HoDs to extend all help to
the medical department.
The Capital Complex administration on Tuesday
conducted a massive drive against persons without ILP and
illegal selling of plastic bags, liquor, gutka and  tobacco
products. Four teams comprising 12 Executive Magistrates
conducted the drive along with police and para military
personnel at Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli & Banderdewa.
They identified 96 persons without ILP, who were later
deported outside the state. The teams also seized more than
300 bottles of liquor sold illegally without license and
thousands of packets of gutka and plastic bags.

Ghatowar inaugurated the two-day 8th North East Business
Summit at New Delhi today. Addressing the summit, he
reiterated that it is the most opportune time for the NE to
capitalize on the growing trade relation with bordering
nations. The two-day Summit organised jointly by the
DoNER Ministry and the Indian Chambers of Commerce  is
likely to see participation from investors and experts from
the North Eastern Region and neighbouring countries.  India today strongly protested to Pakistan over the
brutal killing of two of its soldiers by intruding  Pakistani
troops. As strong reactions by the government and political
parties came, Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir
was summoned by Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, who
conveyed India's deepest concern and protest over
yesterday's attack in which two Indian soldiers were killed
and their bodies subjected to barbaric and inhuman
mutilation. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said
the Pakistani envoy was spoken to in very strong terms and
he called the incident completely unacceptable.
Ten teams have confirmed their participation in the
12th edition of the Tadar Tang Memorial State level football
tournament beginning at General Ground, Pasighat on
January 11. Besides host East Siang, teams from East
Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Papum Pare, Capital Complex,
Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, West Siang, Lower Dibang
Valley and Lohit have confirmed their participation in the
tournament.

during the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature
recorded today was 20.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of
7.6 degree Celsius.
