In Jammu and Kashmir, the main Republic Day function was held at Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, amid tight security arrangements. A report:
Addressing the Republic Day function, Governor N. N. Vohra said that in the past two years there has been a decline in the incidence of terrorist violence. He said that it is due to the role played by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the supreme sacrifices made by J&K Police and the Security Forces that the State is moving ahead on the path of peace and development." In Punjab, the function was organised at Roopnagar where Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil unfurled the tri-colour and took salute from the parade.
Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal unfurled the flag at Amritsar and paid tribute to the martyrs for their supreme sacrifices for the Nation.
Our Jalandhar Correspondent reports that the National flag was also unfurled at Attari Check Post in Amritsar and BSF personnel distributed sweets to Pakistan Rangers on behalf of DG, BSF.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Army, Paramilitary, State Police, NCC and Scouts and Guides took out a parade at the main Republic Day function in capital Lucknow. Governor BL Joshi took the salute.
In Rajasthan, the state level Republic Day function was organized at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur where Governor Margret Alva hoisted the tricolour.
In Gujarat, the main function was held in tribal district Dang as a part of State Government's policy of combining national festivals with decentralization of administration.
In Chhattisgarh, tribal population in the Maoist bastion Bastar defied Maoist diktats and celebrated the Republic Day.
Republic Day is also being celebrated in North Eastern States with colorful shows. In Sikkim, Governor, Balmiki Prasad Singh unfurled the National tri-color at Palzor stadium in Gangtok and took the salute of jawans from Sikkim police and other paramilitary forces.
"The Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh said thatSikkim has given top priority to its education sector and allocated 20% of its total plan allocation. He said, the state which has shown considerable all round development in agriculture, tourism, health and other relevant public services now is in need of an alternative National Highway from Sevok in north Bengal to Gangtok serving better to its people by establishing better road connectivity in state."AJIT SINGH/ AIR NEWS/ GANGTOK.

The reports of celebrations have also came in from Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram.
In West Bengal, the day is being celebrated with over whelming enthusiasm. The people of Gorkhaland Teritorial Administration Sabha in Darjeeling Hills joined the celebration.
The Republic Day is being celebrated across Odisha with gaiety and enthusiasm.
In Kerala, the celebrations began with the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy unfurling the national flag at the Central Stadium in the capital Thiruvananthapuram.
"Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that in 2011-12, Kerala achieved a growth rate of 9.5 per cent ,which is above the national average.The start-up project announced by the Kerala Government for young entrepreneurs has received an enthusiastic response. In Karnataka, rich tributes were paid to the freedom fighters and armed force personnals during the function.
In Maharashtra, Governor K Sankarnarayanan unfurled the national flag at the main function at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.  The report of celebration are coming in from other states also.


64th Republic Day celebrated with reverence, devotion & patriotic fervor in MP

64th Republic Day has been celebrated with reverence, devotion and patriotic fervor in Madhya Pradesh . State level main function has been organized at state capital Bhopal .

Governor Ram Naresh Yadav unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute of the march past at Lal Pared Ground. NCC cadets and sports teams, and praised the tableaux which highlighted the development of the state. On the occasion, schoolchildren and folk singers also rendered cultural programmes laced with the spirit of patriotism .

Chief Minister shivraj singh Chopuhaan hoist the flag at Budelkhand division headquarters in sagar . In his address chief Minister appealed the people of the state to save girl child and to send children to school for their better future .

He appealed youth to join army and other paramillitory forces to serve nation in better way , On this occasion chief Minister announce a scheme - “ Maa Thujhe Slaam “ Under this scheme youths from different parts of th state went on border areas to ascertain the hardships faced by the army and other security forces . Punjab Governor calls upon people to work in harmony for development at Republic Day function

In Punjab, the state level Republic Day function was organised at Roopnagar where Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil unfurled the tri-colour and took salute from the parade.

In his address, the Governor called upon the people of the state to work in harmony for the development of the country. He said there is need to strengthen the society as a whole where women should also get the equal opportunities and respect.

He lauded the unprecedented contribution of Punjab to the cause of freedom of our country and also helping the Nation by contributing maximum foodgrains in the central pool.

Sunny morning greet spectators of Republic Day parade in Delhi

A sunny morning with a nip in the air greeted thousands of spectators gathered to witness the Republic Day parade at the majestic Rajpath in the National Capital Delhi.

The low was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal and up by 0.8 degrees from yesterday's 5.6 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded at 21.1 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below normal for this time of the year.

In Rajasthan, the state level Republic Day function was organized at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur where Governor Margret Alva hoisted the tricolour.

She honoured 35 state and police officials for their excellent work. Police Medal for bravery was given to Khem Singh posthumasly.

Mrs Alva honoured ADG Police Dr. Hemant Kumar Purohit and Thandi Lal Meena with Presidents Police Medal. Colourful folk dances and cultural programmes were also presented by 1600 school children and folk artists of Rajasthan and Karnataka.
Odisha govt announces Rs.1 per kg rice scheme for poor

The Odisha government has announced 1 rupee per kg rice scheme for the poor. The announcement was made by the chief minister Nabin Patnaik today while addressing the 64th Republic day function in Cuttack. Mr. Patnaik said that this scheme would also be available to the sc/st hostel students and the beneficiaries of the Antodaya scheme.

The scheme, he said , would be effective from February this year which would benefit about 58 lakh people across the state. The chief minister also said his government would soon set up fast track court for dealing with crimes against women.

The state level Republic Day celebration was organised in Bhubaneswar, the state capital. The governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare unfurled the national flag and took salute of the parade.

Many other functions are being organised across the state with patriotic fervour to mark the day. On the other hand, security has been tightened across the naxal hit areas to ensure the smooth celebration of the Republic Day.

NE region celebrates Republic Day

In Assam, the main function was held at Khanapara Veterinary College Playground in Guwahati where Governor J B Patnaik hoisted the tricolour in presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Defying the boycott call of several insurgent groups, people from all walks of life participated in the celebration. National flag was also hoisted at government offices and other institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Patnaik said that urged all to build a strong and prosperous Assam. He said that government is concerned with corruption at all levels and is working out proper remedial measures. In order to increase the efficiency in delivery of public services, government is implementing Assam Right to Public Service Act.

He also said that state government has taken slew of measures to control crimes especially against women. The Governor added that Assam Victims Compensation Scheme has been introduced to provide rehabilitation to the victims of crimes.

A strict vigil is being maintained across the state to maintain law and order situation.

In Tripura, the main function was held at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala where the Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar unfurled the National Flag and took saluté of the parade.

18 Contingents took part in the march past. The Contingent comprised of Jawans from paramilitary forces, Tripura State Rifles, NCC, Scouts, Police, Forest and Home Guards and Assam Rifles School.

Cultural troupes from different schools and cultural organisation also presented a colourful programme on this occasion.

Meanwhile, in Manipur, the Republic Day was celebrated amidst tight security in view of the boycott call by the militant organizations.
The main function was held at the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal.

Also, Meghalaya joined the nation in celebrating 64th Republic Day today. Governor Ranjeet Shekhar Mooshahari led the state level celebration at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in the State Capital Shillong, where he unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honour.

On the occasion, Mr. Mooshahari appealed to all militant elements in the state to seek resolution of their demands through established democratic process by peaceful means and to abjure the path of violence. He said the signing of the agreed text of settlement between the Achik National Volunteers Council, State Government and Government of India is a positive development for peace.

Expressed concern over the growing incidents of crime against women, he said criminal justice administration needs to be refined to make it more effective and exemplarily deterrent. He emphasized the family has a great role to play in formulating basic human values of love, respect, tolerance and character to children.

On upcoming state assembly election, Governor calls upon the people of the state, particularly the youth to exercise their right of franchise freely, without fear or favour. He informed that state administration is making all efforts to ensure free and fair conduct of election in the State.

In Arunachal Pradesh, Governor JJ Singh unfurled the tri-colour during a colourful Republic Day celebration held at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar today.

Escorted by state DGP J K Sharma, the Governor also inspected the ceremonial parade. Speaking on the occasion, JJ Singh called upon the people to transform into reality the vision cherished by the founding fathers of the nation and freedom fighters.

Remembering the founding fathers of the nation, freedom fighters members of the armed forces who had laid down their lives for the country, he appealed the people to inculcate proper work culture and discipline for bringing about a vibrant, peaceful and prosperous Arunachal Pradesh.

State Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, his cabinet colleagues and top level government officials also attended the Republic Day function.

Announcement of state awards, march past, presentation of tableau by various departments and cultural presentations by different communities of the state were the other highlights of the celebration.

Patriotic fervour and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations in Lakshadweep islands.

Administrator H Rajesh Prasad hoisted the National Flag at the Stadium ground at Kavarathi this morning. An impressive march past by personnel of India Reserve Battallion, Lakshadweep Police, Lakshadweep Commando Force, NCC, Scouts and Guides marked the event. Dance performances by artistes, mass drill and tableaux added colour to the festive occasion.

At the headquarters of the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Vice Admiral Satish Soni reviewed an impressive ceremonial parade.

36 platoons of the Southern Naval Command participated in the parade. Earlier, the Vice Admiral paid homage at the War Memorial at the Naval Base.

Keeping with the maritime traditions, warships at the Naval Base were Dressed Overall -- the practice of adorning the warships with flags and ensigns.

Chief Justice Mrs Manjula Chellur hoisted the National Flag at the Republic Day celebrations at the Kerala High Court.[eom]

Pomp & gaiety marks Republic Day celebrations in Andhra

In Andhra Pradesh, pomp and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations through out the state today. Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan hoisted the national flag and taken the salute at a main ceremonial parade held at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad this morning.

In his address on the occasion, the Governor assured people of the state that his Government is committed for the welfare of downtrodden, transparency in administration and for Good governance. He said the Government brought into force the SC ST sub-plans Act following his accent to the Bill yesterday.

The first of its kind law in the country is aimed at earmarking resources for SCs and STs based on their population, prevent diversion of funds and creating a Nodal Agency to monitor the implementation of the sub-plans. The Act will be in force for next ten years.

The Governor expressed satisfaction over implementation of welfare programmes for rooting out the causes responsible for naxalism in eight district of the state under the Integrated Action Plan of the Central Government.

He called upon people especially youth to strive united for all round development of the society and become partners in the implementation of the Government development programmes.

The tri-colour was unfurled at the state High Court, LokaAykta, all government offices, headquarters of political parties and school buildings in the state.

Some enthusiastic individuals, especially at residential complexes have also unfurled the national flag atop their buildings. At districts head quarters, collectors have unfurled the tri-colour at their collectorates.
Tribute paid to freedom fighters & armed forces in K’taka

Rich tribute was paid to the freedom fighters and armed forces during the 63rd Anniversary of our Republic in Karnataka today. The Governor Dr.H.R.Bharadwaj hoisted the national flag in Bangalore and received Guard of Honour.

Cultural programmes, praising the greatness of our motherland and its brave sons, filled everyone’s heart with love for the country. Parade by armed forces, school children, physically challenged children and aerobatic display by motorcycle team enthralled the audience.

In his Republic Day speech, the Governor called upon democratic institutions like Parliament and State Assemblies to ensure debates touching the problems of the weaker sections of the Society and the rural poor. The Chief Minister, other Council of ministers and dignitaries took part in the festivities.
