Tripura Polls:Women voters key in five constituencies
In Tripura,with asembly elections on 14th of next month, political parties are in all out effort to woo the voters. Our correspondent reports that there are 5 constituencies in Tripura where the vote battle depends on female voters as they are in majority.
They will be the deciding factor in at least 5 constituencies in the upcoming assembly election in Tripura. The final Electoral roll published shows female majority of voters in at least 5 constituencies. Further the female domination is more in three constituencies within the Agartala City area and 2 in the rural areas. The constituencies where female voters are more in the constituencies within the Agartala city area are, Agartala, Town Bordowali and Ramnagar while the Constituencies in the rural areas are Ampinagar and Simna. If we go by statistics of the final electoral roll Simna has a Total Voter of 33522, with male voters at 16711 to female voters of 16811 that is female voters are more by 100 than its male counterpart. At Ampinagar Constituency out of 33024 voters Female voters stand at 16678, with male voters at 16346.Here Female voters are more than 332 than its male voters. In Agartala Constituency out of 46053, female voters stands at 23185 and male voters at 22868 here difference is 317 for female voters. In town Bordowali constituency out of 44883 voters, Male voters stands at 21917 while female voters are 22966 here the female voters are 1049 more than the male voters. At Ramnagar Constituency total voter is 40753 where the female voters are 20730 and male voters are 20023 that is female voters are 707 more than male voters. Thus if statistics is to be believed than the female counter part are going to have final say at the wining or loosing of the candidates from this constituencies.


The Election Commission India has deployed 13 Expenditure Observers for
Nagaland for monitoring the flow of illegal cash and other inducements during
the upcoming Assembly election to the state. According to Nagaland Election
Department sources the ECI has deployed a total of 36 observers in Meghalaya,
Nagaland and Tripura and the officials deputed by the Central Board of Direct
Taxes and Central Board of Excise and Customs will act as Election Expenditure
Observers. The observers will monitor all Election  Commission guidelines
framed to curb the use of money power in the run-up to the polls. Nagaland
Chief Electoral Officer J. Alam had already informed that sealing expenditure of
a candidate is 8 Lakhs rupees and anybody found carrying 50,000 rupees or
above in cash during the election period was liable for explanation irrespective
of carrying it for political, business or personal purposes. He also informed, if
any cash exceeding 50,000 rupees is found in a vehicle carrying the candidate or
his agent or party worker, as well as political posters, liquor, guns, and other
materials which are likely to be used for political campaigns valuing more than
10,000 rupees would be subjected to seizure. The Chief Electoral Officer stated,
there will also be Monitoring Cells in the district headquarters, while every
district will have an Expenditure Observer, besides the Micro Observers.  To check illegal fund flow in the upcoming assembly election in Nagaland, State
Election Department has issued instruction to all concern to deploy
State  Surveillance Teams (SSTs) in all major and arterial roads from the date of
notification of election to look for large quantities of cash, illegal liquors, any
suspicious items or arms being carried in the area. The Election department also
informed that in case of Expenditure Sensitive Constituencies (ESC), at least
one or two SSTs will be deployed in a constituency. Informing this in a release,
the Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, J. Alam stated, the SSTs will be
controlled by the District Election Officer and Superintendent of Police, through
the Flying Squad (FS) and the mechanism should be strengthened and
intensified in last 72 hours before the poll, particularly in susceptible areas in
consultation with Expenditure Observers. The CEO has also directed all the
Deputy Commissioners and District Electoral Officers and Additional Deputy
Commissioner and Deputy Electoral Officer of Pughoboto (Electoral District) to
form necessary Flying Squads immediately and initiate further necessary action
as instructed by the ECI. He also informed, there shall be one more Flying Squad
(FS) in each constituency. The Flying Squad with help of Video Surveillance
Team (VST) shall video graph all major rallies, public meetings or other major
expenses made by political parties after the announcement and election
expenses of the candidate from the date of nomination and shall attend to all
complaints regarding election expenditure. The Ladoigarh Polling Station in Ladoigarh in Tamlu Assembly Constituency
under Longleng district of Nagaland has been set up at the Ladoigarh ‘A’ Khell
Community Hall. It was decided unanimously in a meeting, where various
political parties and NGOs has expressed no objection or complaint for setting
up the Polling Station at the new location. It may  be mentioned that the
Ladoigarh Polling Station in Ladoigarh in Tamlu Asembly Constituency under
Longleng district of Nagaland could not be held in  2008 Nagaland Assembly
elections as the Polling station is being occupied by Assam Police since 2007,
claiming as the area is under Assam and the dispute is still continuing. The
Meeting of all Political Parties, Administrative Officer, NGOS and Police was held
on Monday in connection with the purely temporary selection of Polling Station
at Ladoigarh in view of the main Polling Station occupied by Assam Armed
Police. A spot verification was also carried out by Chief Electoral Officer, Deputy
Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Additional Deputy Commissioner
of Tamlu along with the prominent NGOS
