Thousands of devotees from across the country took a
holy dip at Parsuram Kund, on the occasion of Makar
Sankranti today. The Lohit district administration has made
elaborate security arrangement for the event at Parsuram
Kund, which is about 45 km away from the district HQs,
Tezu. Braving cold weather, the devotees including  those
from Nepal and Myanmar made a beeline to the famous
Kund on the Lohit river, which carries a strong mythological
link with Parsurama, a Hindu sage. According to the legend,
sage Parsurama washed away his sin of matricide in  the
waters of the Lohit river at Brahmakund.
The Arunachal Pradesh govt has approved the creation
of four more districts for better administration. The State
Cabinet, in a meeting on Saturday chaired by Chief Minister
Nabam Tuki, approved the creation of new districts in the
name of Namsai and Lower Siang. The District Creation Bill
is slated to be tabled in the ensuing Budget session of State
Assembly. Apart from it, the Cabinet gave its ‘in principle’
approval for creation of Middle Siang and Capital districts.
In another important decision, the Cabinet approved a 22 to
24 metre road in the capital for right of way (RoW)
wherever feasible without disturbing structures constructed
by private individuals on both sides of the road. The cabinet
also okayed a bye-pass (road) from Chimpu to Leki without
touching Itanagar and Naharlagun. The Cabinet also
approved creation of two new circle headquarters – Kantang
in Changlang district and Nikte in West Siang, besides
upgrading the Dambuk SDO headquarters to ADC
headquarters.A nine-member fact finding team of All Arunachal
Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) visited the recent
violence-hit areas of Changlang district in order to find
actual causes of conflict between the Chakmas and
Singphos in Kagam, Lewang, Miao, Phup and M’Pen areas.
AAPSU, has appealed the state govt to provide adequate
compensation to the indigenous victims and evict the illegal
land encroachers within 15 days, failing which it threatened
to take its own course of action.
A Special Publicity Campaign on Health & Family
Welfare was organized by the Directorate of Field Publicity
(DFP), Tezu unit at New Danglat village in Lohit district
yesterday. Senior medical officer, Dr Bhowmick spoke about
causes and preventive measures of HIV/AIDS during the
occasion. Earlier, the programme started with a rally to
sensitize the rural masses about health & hygiene.
The West Kameng District Police has launched
“PRAYAS”, a community policing initiative with a twofold
vision of reaching out to the people and making them a part
of law and order maintenance. The Bomdila police station’s
officer-in-charge A B Tamang and his team in association
with the District Health Society organized a free health
camp at Saidle village in Bomdila on Sunday.
The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society held its first
literary sitting of the year at JN State Museum in  Itanagar
yesterday. The day’s proceedings started with new literary
writers sharing their creative writings with the literary
luminaries like Y D Thongchi, an exponent of creative
writings and president of APLS.
 The two-day Sunrise Children’s Festival concluded
yesterday. The festival was organized by Tourism
Department at Energy Park in Itanagar with over 150
children from various schools participating in it. The second day started with a workshop on awareness of tourism and
environmental impact.

Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh has made it clear that
India will not accept the denial by Pakistani forces killing two
Indian soldiers brutally in Poonch sector last week. Gen
Singh said that it was a pre-planned conspiracy. Pakistani
side first diverted the attention of Indian side and then
executed its ill designs. The Army chief said India’s response
to Pakistani firing at its posts in LoC in Jammu and Kashmir
is measured and perfect. He said instructions have  been
given to Army commanders to respond immediately if
provoked.

Upper Siang played out a goalless draw against Lower
Dibang Valley in a league match of the ongoing 12th Tadar
Tang Memorial State Level Football Tournament in Pasighat
yesterday. In another match of the day, Lower Subansiri
were 2-2 draw against Papum Pare.

According to the Met Centre, the sky will be generally
clear with fog and mist in the morning in Itanagar  and
neighbouring areas during the next 24 hours. The maximum
temperature recorded today was 23.2 degree Celsius and a
minimum of 15.2 degree Celsius.
