Fast Track Courts being established in J&K

Fast Track Courts are being established in Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen Judicial System and to curb the menace of crime against women more effectively. The new Fast Track Courts would be created for exclusive trial of rape cases to provide succour to the rape victims and to deliver justice to them speedily.

Chief Justice Jammu and Kashmir High Court, M.M Kumar today inaugurated 3rd Additional District Judge (TADA), a Fast Track Court for trial of rape cases (Session Judge District Jammu) at Court Complex, Janipur of Jammu district.

He said these Fast Track Courts have been created on suggestions of Chief Justice of India to clear the huge pendency of rape cases.

He said that the High Court has sought creation of eight courts of the rank of District and Session Judge as Fast Track Courts in various districts of the State where there is enormous pendency of rape cases.

The High Court has also sought the creation of ten Fast Track Courts on the rank of Civil Judge (Senior Division/Sub Judge) in Jammu and Kashmir to try the cases pertaining to offences against women at Magistrate level.

Voters list released in almost all districts of TN by respective district collectors

The voters list was released in almost all districts of Tamil Nadu like Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Namakkal by the respective district collectors today. In Tiruchirapalli, there are 19 lakh 35,529 voters in the list according to collector Jayasree Muraleedharan.

There are 9 lakh 61,769 male voters and 9 lakh 73,687 female voters in the district. 92,050 voters have been newly included in the voters list. The voter’s photo identity cards will be given on National voter’s day which falls on January 25.

Earlier Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar released the voters list for the State. There are 5 crore 16 lakh voters out of which 2 crore 57 lakh are female.


25 people including 11 children, killed in Bihar road accident

In Bihar, twenty-five people, including 11 children, were killed and 10 others injured when a speeding truck overturned and fell into a roadside ditch near Titai Bigha in Aurangabad district in the wee hours of today.About 35 people were on board the truch and 25 of them were killed when the truck turned turtle. Ten others were injured and have been admitted to Sadar hospital.

Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Praveen Kumar Parai told PTI from the accident spot that the injured had told him the truck driver was drunk and that he along with his assistant fled from the spot.The truck, carrying 35 labourers, were returning to their native Lesiganj village in Daltonganj district bordering Jharkhand.
State Cooperative Minister Ramadhar Singh, who is a BJP MLA from Aurangabad, condoled the death and said the state government would provide 50,000 rupees each as compensation to the families of the deceased.

Punjab cancer detection campaign reveals more than 80,000 suspected cases in state

Punjab has lost more than 31,000 people to the deadly cancer in the last five years. That means more than 6000 people died every year due to cancer during this time. This fact has come to light during the month long door-to-door campaign started by the state health department on December 1st last year, for early detection of cancer and its subsequent treatment.
The health department has also found more than 80 thousand suspected cancer patients during this exercise which was conducted by 45,000 health personnel across the state. These cases will be re-examined.
Our Jalandhar Correspondent reports that out of 54 lakh houses in the state having 2.73 crore population, more than 47.69 lakh houses involving over 2.48 crore population were checked for cancer in the first phase of the exercise. Rest would be examined in the second phase.
Cancer is curable if detected at an early stage.

Strike by sugarcane growers in Haryana enters sixth day

In Haryana, the strike by sugarcane growers in the state entered sixth day today. The agitating farmers said they would not let the sugarmills operate till their demands were accepted. They are demanding 300 rupees per quintal minimum support price for the sugarcane. They also threatened to block roads if their demands were not accepted. Kandela Khap has announced its support to the agitating farmers.A spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union said that the crushing and production of sugar have come to standstill in the state since the launch of the agitation on January 5. He said that the farmers would not supply sugarcane to the cooperative mills till their demand is met with.He said that tomorrow in a mahapanchayat of farmers at Radaur in Yamunanagar district the future course of action would be decided.

Govt to step-up night patrolling on motor cycles by Delhi police

The government has decided to step-up night patrolling on motor cycles by Delhi police to ensure safety for women in the city. Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who reviewed the law and order situation in the capital, said that Mahila Help Desks will be set up in each police station to enhance security.

He said Mobile numbers and telephone numbers of Mahila Help Desks in the concerned police station will be notified in all schools and colleges.

The Home Minister said the government has also decided to constitute committees at each police station involving civil defence personnel, home guards, ex-servicemen and women NGOs so that issues relating to public particularly women are brought before the police in a more interactive manner.
