THE HEADLINES
• After carrying out all necessary verifications, the final electoral rolls of
Nagaland published.
• North East Business Summit stresses on linking of NE states with
neighboring countries.
• H K Khulu has been appointed as Additional Chief Secretary and
Development Commissioner of Nagaland.
• Two Indian soldiers, killed brutally by Pakistani army in Jammu and
Kashmir, cremated with full military honour in their respective villages.
After carrying out all necessary verifications, the electoral rolls were finalized by
respective EROs and finally published today. According to an release by State
CEO, the total electorate of Nagaland stand at 11,81,731. There are 5,97,204 male
and 5,84,527 female voters. The electorate to population ratio stands at 59.67 per
cent which compares favourably with the national average. The Draft electoral
rolls were published on 1st October 2012 and claims and objections were invited
for inclusions and deletions. In addition, a special campaign was carried out to
collect photographs of those electorate who were without photos. The Electoral
Rolls after final publication are now available with all BLOs and all the 12
Electoral Registration Officers for inspection by the voters. In case any genuine
voter’s name is found deleted in the roll, he or she may immediately contact the
nearest ERO and apply for inclusion.
The DoNER minister Paban Singh Ghatowar inaugurated the two-day 8th North
East Business Summit in New Delhi yesterday. Addressing on the summit,
Ghatowar reiterated that it is the most opportune time for North East to
capitalize on the growing trade relations with the bordering nations and emerge
as a crucial enabler to enhance economic and cultural tie-ups with these
countries. He emphasized that the time has come for an effective hand-holding
from all the stakeholders so that North-East can reach next level of growth and
economic prosperity and the Look East policy find its true meaning. The two-day
Summit was organised jointly by the Ministry of DoNER and the Indian Chamber
of Commerce. The Minister also released a book India’s North-East - Diversifying
Growth Opportunities prepared by Indian Chamber of Commerce. Nepal industry
minister Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Minister of Sagaing  Region of Myanmar U Tha
Aye, Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar and investors were present on the
occasion.
The President Pranab Mukherjee has giPunjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal favoured  stringent punishment in
cases of gang rape and custodial rape. Making a series of suggestions to
Justice Verma Commission, Badal today said that the provision of mercy
petition should not be given to convicts of such heinous crimes. Chief Minister
emphasized on speedy investigation, prosecution, expeditious trial and
enhanced punishment in all such crimes. The Chief Minister said that
investigations of all such cases should be conducted by a woman police officer
which must be monitored by a Senior Superintendent of Police on daily basis.
 
The second Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa,  BRICS, Health Ministers
Meet will begin with a two-day programme in New Delhi today. The Health
Ministers, Secretaries and Senior Advisors of BRICS countries are participating
in the meet. The first BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting was held in Beijing in 2011.
The Beijing Declaration emphasized the importance and the need of technology
transfer, role of generic medicines and to establish priorities in research and
development as well as cooperation among BRICS countries. It has been
underlined that the BRICS nations could jointly address common goals such as
promoting innovation and universal access to health technologies, including
medicines, and to encourage flow of knowledge amongst research institutions
through joint projects. In accordance with this mandate, the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare has organised the two-day Meet at New Delhi.
The state finance commissioner H K Khulu has been appointed as the additional
chief secretary and development commissioner. This  was notified by the
Government yesterday. Former additional chief secretary and development
commissioner Alemtemshi Jamir was elevated to the post of chief secretary on

 January. Khulu, who served the state government on various capacities, was
holding the post of Agriculture Production Commissioner.
Two Indian soldiers, who were brutally killed by Pakistani army in Poonch sector
of Jammu and Kashmir, have been cremated in their respective villages with full
military honour. Lance Naik Hemraj, was cremated at his native village Khairar in
Uttar Pradesh amid chanting of Hemraj Amar Rahen. The funeral pyre was lit by
his five-year-old son Prince in the presence of senior civil as well as military
officers. He is survived by his wife, mother, two daughters and a son. Hemraj's
death, however, has not deterred the family from sending another son to join the
Army. Hemraj's grieving mother and wife said that they are proud of Hemraj and
they would send Prince in the Army to take revenge  from the soldiers of
Pakistan. Lance Nayak Sudhakar Singh was cremated in his village in Sidhi
district of Madhya Pradesh. Outraged by the brutal  killing of two soldiers by
intruding Pakistani troops, India yesterday strongly protested to Pakistan,
warning that the unacceptable incident will have adverse impact on the ties
between the two neighbours.  Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Kumari  Selja urged the private
sectors to focus on skill development and promotion of entrepreneurship among
the weaker sections of society. She was addressing a meeting convened in New
Delhi to review the progress made by the private sectors in this regard,
especially for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Minister called
for wider publication of the success stories of weaker sections of society. She
asked the industrial houses to organise more and more events for creating
awareness among these peoples.
 
Twenty-five people, including 11 children, were killed and 10 others injured when
a truck overturned and fell into a roadside ditch in Aurangabad district of Bihar
today. Police said the truck driver was drunk and driving the vehicle with speed
under the cover of fog. The truck, carrying 35 labourers, overturned on the
highway before rolling into a roadside ditch, Police said.
Lotha Gazetted Officers’ Association is holding its 2

 General Conference at
Lotha Hoho Ki at Dimapur tomorrow. The conference will be graced by Mathung
Kithan, Finance Commissioner and Principal Secretary to the Government of
Haryana. It will also be graced by L Chechamo Lotha, DG Prisons as guest of
Honour. The Association sources said, the Conference will discuss the roles and
responsibilities of officers for betterment of the society.
