MP conducts first-ever vulture census in state

In Madhya Pradesh, in the first-ever vulture census in Orchha Sanctuary of Tikamgarh district, 125 vultures of four species and their nests have been found. our correspondent reports that for the first time, migratory Cinereous Griffon Vulture, which comes from Himalayas, is also detected in Orchha Sanctuary.Our correspondent reports that the vulture census was conducted scientifically on 17th and 18th December last year in different areas of Orcha sanctuary by a team of trained enumerators. Fifty indigenous vultures, 63 White Backed, 9 Egyptian and 3 King vultures have been found in the Sanctuary. Number of vultures has also declined in Madhya Pradesh during the last two decades. Due to this, the Forest Department is making special efforts for vulture conservation. There are 22 species of vulture of which 15 are found in eastern and 7 in western countries. Police monitoring traditional Pongal bull fights in TN for legal violations

Maattu Pongal-the thanksgiving pongal for bulls and cows is being celebrated today in Tamil Nadu.Jallikattu- bull fights- are being held in Tiruchirapalli and Madurai districts.Our correspondent reports that the bulls and cows are decorated and their horns colourfully painted. Pooja is then conducted in reverence to the cattle considered to be friends of farmers. It is also the time for Veera Vilayattu of Tamils-the Jallikattu or the bullfight. Palamedu Jallikattu in Madurai was held today. Hundreds of bulls from Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Dindigul and Pudukottai are seen in action. The bull fight is being closely monitored by a police team led by Supdt of police Balakrishnan so that norms laid by Court are strictly followed.The bulls as well as the tarmers were subjected to medical examination before the fight. In Trichy, Sooriyur, jallikattu was inaugurated today by collector Jaysree Muraleedharan.
Normal life in Manipur border town Moreh hit by bandh

In Manipur, normal life has been badly affected in the Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh due to 24-hour bandh from six the last evening. The bandh has been called by local people of the border town against the hand grenade attack by unknown miscreants at the residence of Hill Tribal Council, Moreh last afternoon.
Educational institutions and business establishments including shops and markets remained closed during the bandh. Passenger vehicles also remained off the road.
Protests in Vasco,Goa after rape of minor in school premises

In a shocking incident, a seven year old girl studying in class two was raped by an unidentified youth in a school toilet during recess at Vasco in South Goa yesterday. The Medical examination has confirmed rape.The Police have detained the Headmistress of the school on grounds of negligence.The port town witnessed tense situation after huge protests following the incident .The Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parriker visited the spot late last night and asssured stern action against the accused. The Police investigations are on.Incidentally the school is guarded by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the gate.
J&K Cabinet reshuffle today

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will undertake a reshuffle of the Council of Ministers at 4 pm at the Raj Bhawan today as all 10 Ministers of National Conference, two Advisors and three chairpersons of Commissions/Boards submitted their resignations to him. This was done last night to facilitate him to induct some new faces in the Ministry and depute some Ministers for the party work. The Congress, the main coalition partner of National Conference, was also likely to induct three new Ministers and drop another.
Keep assembly under suspended animation: Jh'khand Governor's recommendation to Centre

Jharkhand governor Syed Ahmed yesterday sent his final report to the home ministry, recommending the state assembly to be kept under suspended animation. Our correspondent quoting the sources reports that the Governor in his report mentioned no political party or group has come foward to form the government in the state.
The BJP-led coalition government fell last week when its partner Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) withdrew its support to the 28-month-old government.
In the 82-member state assembly, BJP and JMM had 18 members each. The coalition government had the support of six members of All Jharkhand Students' Union, two of JD (U), two independents and a nominated member who has voting right.
