Ratangarh stampede: MP govt suspends 4 top officers & 17 policemen of Datia district

In Madhya Pradesh, the state government has suspended four officers including the Collector and Superintendent of Police of Datia district over the alleged lapses in connection with the Ratangarh temple stampede. Besides, all the 17 police personnel including
thana–in-charge posted in Atreta and Tharet police stations of the district, have also been suspended. Our correspondent reports that
M R Raghuraj has been posted as Datia collector in place of Sanket Bhondve while R.K Marathe has been posted as Superintendent of Police in place of Chandrashekhar Solanki. Sub Divisional Magistrate Maheep Tejasvi and Sub Divisional officer of Police B. N. Basave have also been suspended and replaced. The decision has been taken after the approval of the Election Commission as the state is under the Model Code of Conduct following announcement of assembly polls. According to Datia’s Chief Medical Officer R S Gupta autopsy of 111 deceased have been performed in the government hospitals while 46 injured have been admitted. Meanwhile the war of words has intensified among political parties over the incident.

Asaram remanded in police custody till Oct 19

Controversial godman Asaram has been remanded in police custody till 19th October by a Gandhinagar court in Gujarat. He was produced in court this morning under tight security by Gujarat police and sought 14 days police remand. Asaram and his son Narayan Sai are facing serious charges of sexual assault by two sisters of Surat .

After hearing of counter arguments, Magistrate granted Asaram's remand for 5 days. AIR correspondent reports that 72-year-old Asaram was brought to Ahmedabad last evening on a transfer warrant from Jodhpur.

He was interrogated for about two hours at ATS office in Ahmedabad last night . Earlier, he was in in Jodhpur jail under judicial custody after arrested by Rajasthan police on charges of raping a minor girl.

Both Asaram and his son Narayan Sai had filed petitions in the Gujarat high court seeking quashing of sexual assault complaints against them. Narayan Sai has also filed petition for anticipatory bail in a Surat court.
