Shiela Dikshit asked by Delhi court to appear on April 26 in defamation case

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit was today asked by a court in Delhi to appear before it on April 27th in a defamation case filed by her against former city BJP chief Vijender Gupta. The court asked the Chief Minister to submit her medical records related to her treatment after she sought exemption from personal appearance in the defamation case.

Annoyed by the submission of Dikshit's counsel Mehmood Pracha said that she was unable to appear before the court as she is undergoing treatment, Metropolitan Magistrate Namrita Aggarwal asked him to submit the medical documents before the court on April 27, the next date of hearing.

Gupta, who is facing the defamation case, also sought exemption today saying he has to participate in a protest against the chief minister. While allowing Gupta's plea, the court asked him to be present before it on April 27.

Dikshit had filed the criminal defamation case against Gupta alleging that the BJP leader used uncivilised language against her in the run up to the MCD polls last year.

Maharashtra CM orders probe into Thane building collapse

Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan has ordered a probe in the Thane building collapse. He announced in Assembly that two lakh rupees compensation will be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. He said Additional Chief Secretary rank officer will conduct a thorough probe and the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Thane area and senior Police Inspector has been suspended in connection with the collapse.

Police has already registered a case against the builders and efforts are on to nab the culprits. The death toll in the building collapse in Shil Phata area of the Thane district has gone upto 45. Some people are still believed to be trapped under the debris. The deceased include construction workers, women and children. While 59 people were injured in the incident, 17 of them have been discharged from hospital after administering medical treatment to them. The seven-storey illegal structure collapsed around 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Punjab Police: Vijender Singh’s dope test has no relevance

Punjab Police today said that the out-of-competition dope test of Olympian Boxer Vijender Singh conducted by National Anti Doping Agency (NADA), yesterday, has no relevance .

Fetehgarh Police Chief, Hardyal Singh Mann has told AIR that Punjab Police would not accept the outcome of the dope test as it has no legal validity.

He said since the Punjab Police is the main investigating agency, it would conduct the hair or any other test from a well-equipped forensic lab of its own choice.

Meanwhile, NADA Chief, Mukul Chatterjee told AIR Jalandhar Correspondent that there is no linkage what Punjab Police says and what NADA has to do as per its guidelines.

Vijender has finally given his blood and urine samples to NADA, after almost a month since his name cropped up in the multi-crore Punjab drug haul case.
Death toll in yesterday's road accident in Kashmir mount to 9

In the Kashmir valley, the death toll in yesterday's road accident in Kokernag has risen to nine as two more children succumbed to injuries.

Seven children had died on spot and eight other got injured when a mini bus carrying those school children rolled down into a deep gorge in Anantnag district.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia of one lakh rupees each for families of the deceased children.
Rawat concern over prevailing drought situation in Maharashtra

Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat today expressed concern over the prevailing drought situation in some parts of Maharashtra.

In his remarks ahead of the India Water Week 2013 in New Delhi, he said the government has already released over one thousand crore rupees to the State to deal with the crisis. Rawat said the Centre will extend all possible assistance to the State.

On a query that thousands of litres of water is being used in IPL matches, the minister advised the State government to check the wastage.
Curfew imposed in Rajasthan town after group clashes

In Rajasthan curfew has been imposed in Sanganer town near Jaipur due to continued group clashes since Thursday. Additional police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. On Thursday a minor dispute over parking of a motorcycle turned violent and leading to tension in the area. About 20 policemen were injured in these incidents.

The decision of imposing curfew was taken after a high level review meeting at Jaipur. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also reviewed the situation on Friday evening. He appealed from both the sides to maintain peace and harmony.
Budget Session of Assam assembly adjourned sine-die

The month long budget session of Assam assembly adjourned sine-die on Friday. 4 new and 6 amendment bills were passed by the house. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who also holds finance portfolio presented 1,352 crore rupees deficit budget for the year 2013-14.
Karnataka polls: Bangalore Police Commissioner Mirji transferred

The Bangalore Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothiprakash Mirji was transferred on Friday under directions from the Election Commission, in the poll bound Karnataka. He has been replaced by Raghavendra H. Auradkar, who served as Secretary for Prisons, Crime and Auxilary services, earlier.

An official notification said that the order is issued as per the directions of Election Commission for smooth and free and fair conduct of elections.
BSF seize 9 kg heroin from Amritsar border adjoining Pakistan

Border Security Force has foiled attempts of narcotic smugglers from across the border into India and had seized nine kilogram heroin from Amritsar border adjoining Pakistan.

The recovery has been made today when BSF troops observed suspicious movement of some persons on international border. It found a plastic pipe placed into Indian territory by smugglers having nine packets of Heroin during the search of the area. However, no one has been apprehended.

With this seizure, a total of more than 73 kilogram Heroin of worth crores of rupees has been recovered by BSF within this year besides more than 43 lakh rupees fake Indian Currency Notes.
Five persons burned to death alive in Patna

In Bihar, five persons including two children burned to death alive at Gardanibagh area in capital Patna early on Friday morning. AIR Patna correspondent quoting police sources reports that the tragic incident occur due to fire caused by electricity short circuit. All the persons were died on the spot. Bodies have been sent to Patna medical college and hospital for Postmortem. Another fire broke out in New Market under Kotbali police station area in the state capital razing 100 shops, mostly those stoking cotton. Fire was under control but crores of properties have been damaged due to the fire.
