Meghalaya Lokayukta Bill 2013 passed

The Meghalaya Assembly today passed the Meghalaya Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2013 after incorporating the recommendations of the Governor, Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary. The Governor had earlier withheld his assent to the Bill and instead recommended some amendments to it. These recommendations of the Governor were incorporated and the Bill was passed and would be sent to the Governor for his assent again. Moreover, the Government also passed the Meghalaya Police (Amendment) Bill, 2013.

Sikkim's Rural Management & Development Dept bags PM's Award for Excellence in Public Administration for 2011-12

Sikkim's Rural Management and Development Department has bagged the prestigious Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration for 2011-12.

Official sources said the nomination titled 'Excellence in Rural Management and Development in Challenging Physical Environment of the Sikkim Himalaya' was selected from amongst 128 contenders from all over the country. It highlighted the initiatives related to MGNREGA, Climate Change Adaptation under MGNREGA, Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission (CMRHM), Siddhesvara Dham Pilgrimage Complex, Empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Sanitation and Village Development Action Plan (VDAP) in Sikkim state over the last few years.

The award ceremony will be held in New Delhi on April 21 'Civil Service Day'.

Last rites of K’taka ex governor V S Ramadevi performed with official honours

The last rites of Karnataka former governor V S Ramadevi were performed with official honours this afternoon in Hyderabad . She died yesterday in Bangaluru due to massive heart attack. Earlier, family members, eminent personalities of the city and representatives of political parties paid their last respects to Ramadevi at her residence


Pune court to announce quantum of punishment to German Bakery blast accused today

In Pune, a sessions court will announce quantum of punishment to Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig, the main accused in the 2010 Pune German Bakery blast case this evening. Additional Sessions Judge, N. P. Dhote, held Baig, guilty of murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and other offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, and other acts. The trial began in court room today morning and after hearing the arguments of the lawyers from both the sides the judge deferred the judgment till evening. On 13 February 2010 a powerful bomb blast at the popular German Bakery in Koregaon Park area killed 17 people and injured 56 others .
Aadhar card enrolment touches 99% in Chandigarh

In Union Territory Chandigarh, the enrolment for Aadhaar card has touched 99 per cent. Deputy Director General (Northern Region) of UIDAI, Keshni Anand Arora said that the enrolment figure under the UIDAI scheme in Punjab is 62.9 per cent and in Haryana is and 30.1 per cent. She said that UIDAI is aiming to cover the entire population in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pardesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh by December this year.
In Chandigarh, 10 lakh 43 thousand people out of a total population 10 lakh 55 thousand have been covered under the UIDAI scheme. In Punjab, 1 crore 74 lakh people have been enrolled under the scheme.
