Punjab EC prepared for Panchayat elections, all arrangements made

In Punjab, the State Election Commission is fully prepared for Panchayat elections as all arrangements have been made. Campigning ended at 4 p.m. for the 146 Panchyat Samiti and 22 Zila Parishads that are scheduled to go for polls on Sunday.

State Election Commission has issued strict instructions to Civil, Police and administration to make fool proof security arrangements ensure peace ful polling.

There are 760 candidates for the Zila Parishad elections in the fray as 30 candidates elected unopposed. For the Pachayat Smiti election, 5786 candidates are in the fray 229 candidates have been elected unopposed.

Aarushi murder: UP HC reserves judgement over Rajesh & Nupur Talwa

In Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today reserved its judgement over dentist couple Dr. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, accused in the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi Talwar`s petition to summon 14 witnesses. After hearing arguments from both sides of the petitioner and CBI, Justice RD Khare reserved his judgement.

AIR correspondent reports that dentist couple has approached the Court seeking direction to call 14 witnesses to record their statements in the trial court. They have challenged Special CBI Court's order rejecting their plea for calling the witnesses including ADG law and order and the then CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar to record statements in the murder case. Earlier the Supreme Court had rejected their plea and directed them to approach the high court.

The trial court had on May 6 rejected defence plea and ordered to record the statements of the Talwar couple.

The CBI had told the court that 14-year-old Aarushi's murder was carried out by her parents and no outsider was present. Aarushi was found dead on May 16, 2008 at their residence in in Noida. The body of their servant Hemraj was found the next day on the terrace of the house.
Robbers loot UP-bound train in Punjab; fire at passengers, 3 injured

A group of robbers today looted the belongings of pessengers of Jan Seva Express near Rajpura Railway station in Punjab. The train was on route from Jalandhar to Gorakhpur.

According to Railway Police Force, the robbers also fired on the pessengers in which three people including a 10 year old girl from Gorakhpur, were injured. The girl has been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

As per the spokesman of RPF, the robbers took away with them a few mobiles and 7000 rupees in cash. The Railway Protection Force has started investigation into the incident.
Meghalaya to formulate better policies, planning with release of Primary Census Data for 2011

Meghalaya Government is all set to formulate better policies and planning for the economic development of its people with the release of Primary Census Data for 2011.

Releasing the data to the media at the Main Secretariat in Shillong today, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma said, the different departments of the State Government would analyze the released data for effective implementation of schemes and programmes.

According to 2011 Census, Meghalaya’s population was 29,66,889, and number of male was 14,91,832 and female was 14,75,057. The sex ratio of the State was 989 and the literacy rate was 74.4 per cent. Moreover, the decadal growth between 2001 an 2011 was 27.9 per cent.
Rajasthan: 801st Urs of Khwaja Muinuddin Hasan Chisti at Ajmer ends

In Rajasthan, the 801st Urs of Khwaja Muinuddin Hasan Chisti at Ajmer ended today after the religious ritual of Kul. Earlier, in the Mehfil of Kul, the Shahi Qwawal recited Sufi Qwallis in the presence of thousands of devotees. Today the Jannati Darwaja has also been closed which signifies the end of the Urs. The holy prayer (Jumme ki Namaz) was also offered by more than a lakh pilgrims, who came to Ajmer from all over the country. Special trains and buses will run from Ajmer to facilitate the pilgrims for their return journey.
