Prez arriving in Kolkata tomorrow on 3 day visit to WB

President Pranab Mukherjee is arriving in Kolkata tomorrow on a three day visit to West Bengal. During his stay in the city Mukherjee will launch an online variorum website on Rabindra Nath Tagore at Jadavpur University in Kolkata. In the evening,he will attend the closing ceremony of the 150th year celebrations of the Calcutta High Court. On Monday the President will address a function on the 175th anniversary of the Midnapur Collegiate School in West Midnapur District.

On his return Mukherjee will grace the presentation of a book of Bengali short stories written by his teacher Late Debranjan Mukhopadhyay at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on the same day evening. The President will leave for Delhi on next Tuesday morning.

3 killed in Assam train-truck collision

In Assam, 3 persons were killed when a speedy train rammed into a truck today in Kamrup district. North East Frontier Railway spokesman Hajong said that the incident occurred between Boko and Dhupdhara when Howarh bound Down Saraighat Express hit a goods laden truck at an unmanned level crossing. The driver of the truck sustained injury while 3 others died on the spot. Train services were not affected due to the incident.

Security of 57 Pak prisoners in Punjab jails beefed up

In Punjab, security of all the 57 Pakistani prisoners lodged in Punjab jails have been beefed up and as precautionary measure they are not being allowed to move out their barracks. Jail Minister of Punjab, Sarwan Singh Phillaur said in Chandigarh that 28 Pakistani prisoners in Amritsar out of the total 38 have already completed their terms and they have been lodged in a transit camp within the Jail.
