Swiss woman gangraped by 8 men in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, a Swiss woman was gangraped by a group of eight unidentified persons in Datia district. Police said the incident took place near the town late last night, when the woman along with her husband was touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour.

SP Datia C. S. Solanki said the couple was camping at a place on their way back from Orchha and were proceeding to Agra. They were also looted by the hooligans.

The woman has been admitted to Kamalaraje hospital in Gwalior and her medical tests have confirmed rape.

Police have rounded up eight persons on suspicion and are being questioned. Police also said they are scouring the forest area in search of those involved in the crime.



Ex SC Judge Justice Sudarshan Reddy is first Lokayukta of Goa

Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India Justice B.Sudarshan Reddy is the first Lokayukta of Goa. He was sworn today with Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo administering the oath of office and secrecy to him at Raj Bhavan at Dona Paula near Panaji.

In an informal chat with mediamen later, Reddy said he will try his best to discharge his duties as the Lokayukta using his 42 years’ experience in the Judiciary. He said the office of Lokayukta will start functioning within a few weeks after all the requirements are in place.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parriker,members of his council of Ministers, MLA’s and senior government officials attended the function.

B. Sudershan Reddy retired in July 2011 as Supreme Court judge.


Congress wins no-confidence vote in Andhra Pradesh

The no-confidence motion moved by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and supported by YSR Congress Party and others against the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh was defeated by 142 to 58 votes.

The division of votes was taken up in the Assembly past mid night after a marathon, 14-hour long debate. Speaker N Manohar declared that the No confidence motion moved by E Rajender has been defeated.

Our correspondent reports that 64 members of the main opposition, TDP remained neutral.

Kerela Govt to soon announce comprehensive health policy

Kerela Government will soon announce a comprehensive health policy. Announcing this, state Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said despite the laudable achievements in public health care, a second health revolution is needed in the state to address the new challenges posed by life style diseases.

Addressing a function today to mark the golden jubilee of the TD Medical College in Alappuzha, he said his government is moving ahead with steps to make health a right of the people.

Chandy said that with five more medical colleges proposed to be established in Kerala, the state will have one medical college each in every district.


Nagaland CM presents vote-on-account of Rs. 2913 cr for 1st quarter of 2013-14

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today presented vote-on-account of 2913 crore rupees for the first quarter of 2013-14.

Rio, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented a vote-on-account as his ministry came to power only in the beginning of this month.

He also informed the House that the NPF-led DAN government will give thrust to development and improvement of road connectivity, youth and women empowerment, and development of tourism and service sector.
Assam: National Register of Citizens to be updated once Centre approves

In Assam, National Register of Citizens will be updated soon once the Centre gives its nod. Talking to newspersons in Guwahati today, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the proposal to update the register is likely to be finalised on 18th of this month in a meeting between the Centre and state government officials.

Gogoi said that seven districts will be covered in the first phase including Tinsukia, Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar and Jorhat.The Chief Minister said that a 3 member Advisory Council has been formed to look into updating the register and Foreigners Tribunal activities.

Gogoi said that the functions of the foreigners’ tribunals are likely to be intensified as Court will appoint District Judge as the judge of the tribunals from now onwards. Earlier, only retired judges were appointed in foreigners’ tribunals.

Assam government has already proposed the Centre to increase the number of foreigners’ tribunal in the state to expedite the deportation of illegal migrants.

On the ULFA-Centre, peace talk, Gogoi said that the peace process is on positive direction. He said that schemes for employment generation are being undertaken by the Assam government to keep youths away from joining insurgent groups including ULFA.

The Chief Minister also announced that the number of districts and sub-divisions will be increased to ensure smooth administrative functioning.
