Budget session of Assam assembly starts in stormy note

The month long budget session of the Assam assembly has begun today in Guwahati in a stormy note. The opposition raised slogan when Governor J B Patnaik said that the recent panchayat elections in the state was held successfully. The Governor could not continue his speech amidst noise.

As soon as the Governor has started the customary speech, opposition All India United Democratic Front,Asom Gana Parishad and BJP raised slogans alleging that the state government was failed to conduct free and fair panchayat poll. Some opposition members have also displayed play cards against price rise, law and order situation, Kokrajhar violence and rhino poaching. Governor J B Patnaik in his written speech said that Assam has made progress in all fronts .He mentioned under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 203 lakh men days are generated in the current financial year. The Governor also said that state government has given rural electrification facilities to around nine lakh BPL families. He said that Socio-Economic and Caste census is likely to be completed within two months. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who is also holding the finance portfolio will table the annual budget on 11th of this month.

7 killed, 3 injured in road accident on Mumbai - Pune express way

Seven persons were killed and three injured on the Mumbai - Pune express way when a Tata Sumo car collided with a heavy vehicle in the wee hours of today .

According to Mumbai Police,the accident occoured at 3.20 am at the fag end of the expressway on the Mumbai side. Police sources have informed that the seven people who lost their lives died on the spot and three have been admitted to a hospital.
UP Science Congress come to an end today

In Uttar Pradesh, first ever UP Science Congress came to an end today with a call to enhance coordination between academia, industry and technology users for overall development of the state.

Noted scientists and academicians from across the country discussed various aspects of technological development during three-day deliberations. Environment and development of Small Scale Industries remained focus of discussions.

Experts recommended establishment of Silicon Valley Triangle comprising Kanpur, Lucknow and Allahabad to check the IT brain drain.

The speakers said that the scenario of class room teaching is fast changing and there should be inclusion of information technology from standard one to graduation. Low cost and renewable energy alternatives were also suggested in the Congress.

A science Exhibition EXPO-2013 was also held showcasing the low cost technologies for Industries and common man, health and sanitation issues.
13 children & driver killed in Punjab school bus-truck collision

Thirteen children and a driver were killed when a school bus collided with a truck in a village near Jalandhar in Punjab this morning. Jalandhar Rural SP (D) Rajinder Singh said, the mishap took place at 8AM in Jaheer village when the bus of Akal Academy was taking students to the school. Our correspondent reports, seven children died on the spot and three are critically injured. The accident happened on a highway near Nakodar-Jalandhar road, when the bus was on its way to school and collided on with the truck.
Fire in Gas tanker kills one persons and injures eight others

One person was killed and eight persons injured when a gas tanker caught fire near a slum in Mankhurd area in suburban Mumbai during the early morning hours today.

Official sources have informed that the incident took place at around 2 am when the tanker carrying around 18 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) suddenly caught fire.

The blazing tanker overturned and the flames quickly spread to the nearby slums. According to Police sources, one person, whose identity has yet to be established, was killed while 08 others are injured in the incident.

About 20 fire tenders, including water tankers and foam dispensers were deployed to battle the flames and traffic on the Eastern Express Highway was also suspended to facilitate fire-fighting operations.
