Nation pays tributes to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru

Nation pays homage to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their martyrdom day today. They were hanged on March 23rd in 1931 by the British rulers in Lahore for participating in freedom movement.

A state level function will be organized at their memorial in Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district of Punjab. Another function will be organized at village Khatkar Kalan ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district of Punjab.

Govt to set up 10 electronics clusters

Government is to set up 10 electronics clusters. This was disclosed by Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal while addressing the National Editors’ conference in New Delhi, today. He said building an electronic manufacturing sector is essentisl to offset the rising import bills in the sector.

He said the IT ministry is at the heart of the communication revolution and the ultimate intention is delivery of all public services electronically. The Telecom minister said his ministry proposes a telecom finance corporation in the 12th plan.

The Minority Affairs Minister said that he has written to the Home minister for setting up special courts for speedy trial of Muslim youths arrested in different parts of the country. He said the Home Ministry has strongly supported the view.

On setting up of equal opportunities commission as recommended by Sachar Committee, Rehman said, a draft bill has been sent to the Law ministry in this connection.

The minister also rejected the allegations of non implementation of recommendations of Sachar Committee saying that out of 76 recommendations, 69 are under implementation.

He said the scholarship scheme which is part of the recommendations have benefited 67 lakh minorities students with the financial support of about 1250 crore rupees.
Railways likely to adjust passenger fares with Diesel prices in October

Railways is likely to adjust passenger fares with Diesel prices in October this year. For this, it plans to introduce Fuel Adjustment Component - FAC - on passenger fares.

But a decision will be taken only after a review in September - October says,Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal, He was addressing the Editor 's conference in New Delhi today. FAC means passenger fares will go up or down along with diesel prices. For freight rates, it will be introduced from 1st April.

Asked whether FAC will be imposed in October, Mittal, he said he is not in a position to say that now. He said it will be examined in October whether FAC will be reduced or increased, and then only a decision will be taken. He said, by then the Rail Tariff Authority is also expected to be constituted.

Rail Tariff Authority, the first of its kind for railways, will suggest the level of tariff for both the freight and passenger fares from time to time taking into account the
input cost and volatile market conditions.
