Rajasthan to provide Rs. 150 cr Pre Metric scholarships to OBC students

The Rajasthan Government will provide 150 crore rupees Pre Metric
scholarships to the students of OBC category. Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ashok Bairwa today informed the state assembly that strict action will be taken against officials who did not disperse this scholarship to the eligible students in previous years. Earlier, opposition BJP MLAs alleged that despite of proper funds half of the eligible students not get this scholarship due to negligence of many district officials. In the Zero hour also opposition BJP and CPI (M) MLAs raised the issue of recruitments in state roadways and alleged the CMD of roadways for adopting corrupt practices. Demanding inquiry of this case CPI (M) MLAs staged dharna in the well of the house while BJP MLAs walked out from the house. The Transport Minister Veerendra Beniwal said that procedure was followed in recruitment of drivers and conductors in the state roadways.


Puducherry govt to focus on improved quality of life for people

The Lt.Governor Dr.Iqbal Singh said on Monday that the Government of Puducherry will give focussed attention to achieve improved quality of life for the people across both economic and non-economic dimensions.

Addressing the Puducherry Assembly on the opening day of the Budget session, Dr.Singh said the infrastructural development of outlying regions will be given due importance.

Faster, sustainable and more inclusive growth will be the main thrust in the conceptualisation and implementation of the Plan Schemes, He added.

In order to prevent the atrocities against women, the Governor said that the Puducherry government proposes to increase the strength of Women Police by reserving 20% of Constable posts to women. The pregnant and lactating women will be provided financial assistance for improving their health.

In order to bring the Departments of Survey and Land Records, Registration and Revenue under one roof by connecting them electronically, National Land Records Modernisation Programme has been taken up in the Union Territory.

This will help for a comprehensive, transparent and modern land management system in the Union Territory, Dr.Singh told.

The House on Monday unanimously passed the resolution urging the Centre to support the US sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka in the UNHRC. Earlier the entire opposition Congress, DMK and AIADMK staged walkout in the Assembly protesting the Lt.Governor's address.

Kerala CM:Diplomatic status not excuse for protecting criminals

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said diplomatic status is not an excuse for protecting criminals. Diplomacy cannot be used as a ploy for insulting the judicial system of the country. The chief minister was responding to an adjournment motion moved by the opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly today. The opposition moved the motion demanding a discussion in the House,regarding the non-return of two Italian marines involved in the killing of two Kerala fishermen. Chief Minister said the state and the central government are working in close coordination to ensure the return of the Italian Marines to stand trial in India. Following the Chief Ministers explanation, Speaker G Karthikeyan denied permississon for moving the adjournment motion. In protest, the opposition walked out of the House.
Swiss woman rape case: All six accused remanded to police

In Madhya Pradesh, a local court of Datia sent all the six accused of the Swiss woman rape case to one day police remand on Monday.

Police produced all the accused in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Girraj Sharma in the afternoon.

Police had arrested six accused on Sunday. Police had also recovered mobile and laptop of Swiss couple.

A Swiss woman was looted and gang-raped on Friday late night when she was camping with her husband near Jhadia village in Datia district.

Meanwhile Congress staged dharnas across the state to protest the incident. The Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh led the dharna in Datia.
HC orders immediate transfer of 8 policemen for assault on Punjab girl

Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered immediate transfer of 8 police personnel involved in an assualt on a girl in Taran Taran district.

The Court directed Amritsar Inspector General of Police to ensure compliance of order within 24 hours.

The court has also directed IG Chandigarh to provide security to the girl and also asked Amritsar IG to give report to court tomorrow about providing security to the victim and her family from police personnel other than Punjab cops.

The girl from Taran Taran district was assaulted by Punjab police personnel had approached the High Court.
Lankan Tamil issue: Chidambaram, Anthony, Azad meet Karunanidhi

The team of Union Ministers Mr. P. Chidambaram, Mr. A.K.Anthony and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad are holding discussions with the DMK Chief Mr.M.Karunanidhi at his residence.

The DMK Chief has been insisting on including the word Genocide in the resolution to be brought before the UNHRC and also has been demanding the Centre to Endorsing the views of politicians cutting across party lines insisting on an independent enquiry into the alleged war crimes of Srilanka in the last phase of the war, students of arts and science colleges and advocates conducted protests all over the State.

In Chennai, hundreds of students who tried to protest before the Srilankan High Commission were arrested on Monday.

Miscreants who attacked a monk fled the scene at the Central Railway station as authorities and passengers tried to nab them.

Anna University has unofficially declared holiday owing to the students joining protests at various places.

Hostels at many colleges have been closed and wards have been allowed to stay with their local guardians.

Actor Politician Mr. Sarathkumar has announced that the film industry would support the cause of Srilanka and launch protests.
Crop in 6.26 lakh hectre area damged in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, standing crop in six lakh 26 thousand hectre area has been totally damaged and six lakh 20 thousand farmers have been affected by the recent spell of hailstorms and unseasonable rains.

Talking to media in Bhopal today, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said assessment of damage is still going on and will be completed by 20th of this month.

He said 24 people were killed in lightning incident in different parts of the state on 15th and 16th of this month.

He said recovery of loans from farmers has been postponed.

Mr. Chouhan said that he will meet prime minister on 21 March to request for special package for the state.
Normalcy returns in Odisha Legislative Assembly

Normalcy returned in the Odisha Legislative Assembly today after the Opposition Congress members participated in the proceedings of the house following arrest of son of former law minister and ruling BJD MLA Raghunath Mohanty over the issue of dowry torture. Raja Shree, son of the former Minister was arrested by a team of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police and he has been sent to judical custody by a local court of Balasore.

The HRPC, however, has remained tightlipped about the fate of other accused, former Minister aRaghunath Mohanty and his wife. They all have been charged with dowry torture and the Opposition political parties have been clamouring arrest for Raghunath Mohanty. Raghunath Mohanty had resigned on 15th of this month after his daughter-in-law Barsha Swony Choudhury lodged the complaint. The HRPC officials said there was prima facie evidence against Raja Shree. They also said Investigation is underway and necessary steps will be taken going by evidence available against the rest named in the FIR.Raja Shree and Barsha Swony has accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to physical and mental torture over a dowry demand.

In an embarrassment to the Naveen Patnaik Government, the Odisha Legislative Assembly proceedings were paralysed on last Friday and Saturday with the vociferous Opposition demanding that the former minister be arrested forthwith.
