NHRC asks MP govt. to pay compensation to fluorosis affected children

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has directed Madhya Pradesh government to pay ten thousand rupees each as compensation to seven children, who suffered from Fluorosis due to consumption of water with high content of fluoride.

The rights body took cognisance of the case on a complaint by a human rights activist, who quoting a media report, alleged that 29 children became physically handicapped in Jasoda Khumji village in Jhabua district after drinking water with high fluoride content.

NHRC has also directed the Chief Secretary of the State to send the proof of payment made to them.


Tripura Assembly Polls: As poll date nears, campaigning at peak

In Tripura,with 8 more days to go for the polls, the campaigning trail has reached its peak.CEO Tripura Asutosh Jindal informed that adequate security has also been put in place across the state.

All together 249 candidates are in fray for 60 member assembly election to be held on 14th of this month.Our correspondent reports that central paramilitary forces for polling duty have reached poll bound state of Tripura.

In another incident, security forces along with local police apprehended two persons and seized 191 Sim cards from them yesterday night in Dharmanagar of North Tripura district.

According to Additional SP North district the Vehicle was apprehended after it was found suspiciously travelling without number plate around the city area.

Postal ballot voting is also going on in state on the third day today. Yesterday also the Postal ballot voting took place in different venues in the state. The postal ballot voting will end on 10th of February.
K'taka govt. to ensure ban on endosulfan

Karnataka Government will ensure that ban on endosulfan pesticide continues as it allegedly caused wide scale disability among people coming under its influence. Health Minister Aravind Limabavali informed legislative Assembly during question hour today that the matter will be taken up in the Supreme Court where a review petition is pending against endosulfan ban imposed by the apex court. The minister said that the government has taken measures to conduct survey in Dakshin Kannada, Udupi and Uttar Kannada districts where many cases of disability have been reported.
Snow, rain disrupt life in N.India; Five missing in HP avalanche

Heavy rain and snowfall continue to disrupt normal life across Northern India. In Himachal Pradesh, five persons are missing while three others were injured when an avalanche hit a cluster of houses in Kafnu village under Kinnaur district.

Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner J.M Pathania said that relief and rescue teams were immediately rushed to the spot.

The entire tribal belt is experiencing heavy snowfall for the past three days and normal Life had been completely paralysed as all the highways and link roads were blocked due to snow and even pedestrian movement within tribal valleys has come to a halt.

The higher reaches in the state and mid hills including state capital Shimla are experiencing intermittent heavy snowfall since last night.

In Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, normal life has been completely paralyzed due to the heavy snowfall during the last twenty four hours.

Our Leh Correspondent reports that both aerial and surface connectivity in the region have been badly affected.

All the scheduled flights between Delhi, Jammu and Leh have been cancelled for the second consecutive day today.

Meanwhile, the 300 km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been partially re-opened for traffic after improvement in weather conditions.

Our correspondent reports that the traffic authorities have decided to allow one way traffic on the highway and traffic has been allowed from Jammu to Srinagar today.

In Uttar Pradesh, the weather is cloudy in most of the eastern districts. People are experiencing shivering cold due to icy wind and rainfall during past 48 hours.

Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that Gorakhpur, Basti, Azamgarh, Mahrajganj and Deoria districts have experienced mild showers during the period.

Overnight showers lashed several parts of the National Capital plunging mercury downward. The showers which started late night yesterday countinued this morning also.

According to the Met. department, the city has received 23.6 milimetre rainfall during the last 24 hours.
Good turnout at Surajkund Crafts Mela continues

In Haryana, 27th Surajkund International Crafts Mela continues to attract visitors and a good turnout of people so far has made the authorities confident of a record number of visitors at this year’s event. An spokesman of the Haryana Tourism Department said the number of visitors so far had crossed the three-lakh mark.

Last year, around 10 lakh visitors visited the mela. The stall of handicraft products, manufactured by convicts, set up by the Karnal District Jail for the first time is the main attraction at the mela ground.
Bharat Nirman PIC begins in Patiala district, Punjab

In Punjab, the three-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign has started in village Devigarh in Patiala district, today. This is the 24th such campaign being organized in Punjab. Press Information Bureau, Jalandhar, which is organizing this campaign in coordination with other media units of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, various Centre run schemes meant for the general public would be publicized for the awareness of the masses.
MP, the first state to fully utilize tourism plan funds

Madhya Pradesh has become the first State in the country to fully utilize plan funds released by the Ministry of Tourism under 11th plan for the development of tourism infrastructure at various tourist sites in the State.

Union Tourism Minister Mr Chiranjeevi complimented the State government for this effort during the meeting which was held in New Delhi to prioritize projects pertaining to the development of tourism for the year 2013-14.

An official release said that Madhya Pradesh is thus the first State to have submitted all utilisation and completion certificates and has achieved zero pendency of funds.

The government has now come up with plans to develop more destinations in its state with potential to attract tourists.
CBI arrests Delhi Fire Service official for allegedly accepting bribe

A Delhi Fire Service official has been arrested by CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe of one lakh Rs from a complainant for issuing a no objection certificate for a building.A CBI press release issued today said that a case has been registered against Rajan Wadhera, Assistant Development Officer, Delhi Fire Service, Ashram Chowk in New Delhi on the complaint alleging that he demanded five lakh for rupees for issuing the certificate for a building situated at Ring Road, Lajpat Nagar.

According to CBI the agency laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of one lakh Rs as part payment of the agreed bribe amount of four lakh Rs . Searches were also conducted at the residence and office of the accused.
7 candidates file nomination for Chalfilh Bye-Election in Mizoram

On the last day of nomination for Chalfilh Constituency Bye-Election in Aizawl District, Mizoram, 7 candidates have filed their nomination today. Scrutiny will be held tomorrow and the last date of withdrawal of nomination will be on saturday.
Voting will take place in 29 polling stations on the 23rd of this month, where more than 17 thousand voters will execise their franchise.
