In Uttar Pradesh situation in the trouble hit villages continues to be under control in Meerut district. Local villagers turned violent when they were prohibited to participate into a banned Mahapanchayat at Kheda village on Sunday. Large number of security forces including central Paramilitary forces and state police are in place in the villages to maintain peace. Above 50 persons have been arrested for allegedly violating prohibitory orders, damaging public properties, instigating violence and clashing with security forces.
AIR Allahabad correspondent reports FIRs have been lodged against more than 100 persons including wife and brother of jailed BJP MLA Sangeet Som. FIRs have also been lodged against above 3500 unidentified persons from different villages. The administration says strict actions will be taken against organisers of banned Mahapanchayat. Actions will also be initiated against the persons . At least 20 people, including RAF and police personnel were injured and about 70 government vehicles were damaged in the clash between villagers and police over holding a Mahapanchayat. The Mahapanchayat was convened to protest the slapping of National Security Act NSA against BJP MLA Sangeet Som and arrest of community leaders.
President of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that strict action will be taken against those who had tried to hold Mahapanchayat. Terming it as an attempt to disturb communal harmony in the western region he alleged that the BJP and RSS were trying to orchestrate communal clashes in the state. Main opposition parties in the state have reiterated their demand for president's rule in the state following disturbances in Meerut .
The state unit chief of Bharatiya Janata Party Dr Laxmi Kant Vajpayee has said that a weeklong Dharna will be held at IG Meerut office from October 3 to protest against the administration.
7 convicted in Odisha in Swami Laxmananda Saraswati’s muder case

In Odisha, seven persons have been convicted in connection with Swami Laxmananda Saraswati's murder case. The Phulbani additional district & sessions court today found the seven guilty and reserved order for pronouncement of the quantum of punishment for 3rd of next month. Besides murder and criminal conspiracy, the seven were convicted under different provisions of IPC for offences including rioting with deadly weapons and unlawful assembly. They were also held guilty under several provisions of the Arms Act.
The Court is scheduled to deliver the verdict in the case of two other accused on Tuesday. The Kandhamal district administration has tightened security in and around the court after the judgement in view of tension.
Swami Laxmananda Saraswati and four of his followers were gunned down on 23rd of August, 2008 while celebrating Janmastami festival at Jalespata Ashram of Chakapada in tribal-dominated Kandhamal district.
It had led to widespread communal violence in Kandhamal claiming at least 38 lives, burning of several houses and damage to many churches.

PMGSY project makes significant progress in Meghayala  In Meghalaya, Pradhan Mantri Gram sadak Yojana(PMGSY) has made significant progress for road connectivity particularly in rural areas. This has been made possible because Meghalaya has laid more emphasis on rural development through better connectivity in order to improve the economy of the rural areas. AIR correspondent reports that under the PMGSY Rural Road Project funded byWorld Bank an amount of 1071 crore rupees has been sanctioned for Meghalaya over a Period of five years 2011-2015. Under the first phase of PMGSY, it has been proposed to provide connectivity to 83 habitations by constructing 262 km Road at an estimated cost of 171 crore rupees. In the second phase road connectivity will be provided to 432 habitations by constructing 1363 km road at an estimated cost of 900 crore rupees. During 2012-13, 302 Kms of kutcha roads were black-topped and 1059 RCC bridgeswere constructed from the funds available under the State plan and Centrally- sponsored schemes. The Government of Meghalaya also wanted to convert allthe wooden bridges into RCC bridges during the current plan period. |
