Assam: Normal life affected by bandhs, curfew relaxed in Karbi Anglong

In Assam, life was hit in lower areas of the State for the second day today in three bandhs called to press for Bodoland and Kamtapur. Karbi Anglong, which had erupted over statehood demand on the lines of Telangana, was slowly limping back to normal. The curfew relaxed from 8 AM to 5 PM here.

UPDF has suspended its 1500-hour strike from tomorrow, while AKRSU reduced the duration of its bandh from 36 to 31 hours and ABSU from 60 to 48 hours in view of the coming Id-ul-Fitr.

A NF Railway spokesman said that no trains have been cancelled or rescheduled so far today. All educational institutions, markets and business establishments remained closed in the bandh affected districts.
GJMM bandh: WB Home Secy in Darjeeling today to review situation

Home Secretary of West Bengal, Basudeb Banerjee, is reaching Darjeeling today to take stock of the situation following the indefinite bandh called by Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) in hills of Darjeeling district. The bandh has entered its fourth day today. Banerjee will have a meeting with senior administrative and police officials to review the situation this afternoon. Situation in Darjeeling is peaceful and security has further beefed up in Kurseong and Kalimpong Tehsils. GJMM supporters are staging dharna and protests against the arrests of party workers. Thirteen persons have been arrested so far in various cases of violation of law

Protest against bifurcation of Andhra continues for 7th day today

Agitating against the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh, continued today across coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

Protesters supporting united Andhra Pradesh took out rallies and resorted to road blockades at several places as the protests entered the seventh day today.

In Anantapur, agitators stopped a passenger train at the railway station.

In Kurnool and Nellore districts, the protesters cooked food on roads besides taking out massive rallies and blocking roads.

A rally involving heavy vehicles, tractors and auto rickshaws was held in Chittoor district while some protesters burnt tyres on the roads.

Meanwhile, 10 districts on the banks of the major rivers in the state have been put on high alert with met officials warning heavy rains at several places during next three days. Though the levels of flood water began receding in Godavari River , hundreds of villages remained marooned.

Nearly 48 thousand people from low laying areas are presently taking shelter in 193 relief camps. Several villages remained cut off with the rest of the areas following the road connectivity and power supply were affected
UP CM dissatisfied over media reports on suspension of IAS officer Durga

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today expressed dissatisfaction over the manner with which media is handling the suspension issue of IAS officer Ms. Nagpal. Addressing media while inauguration of some development schemes at his official residence in Lucknow today, CM said that a section of media is blowing the issue out of proportion. He said whoever will falter will be punished in the future as well.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that on this occasion Mr Ahmad Hasan, a senior minister in the Akhilesh government, even called the names while condemning the alleged erroneous role played the lady IAS officer.

He vehemently defended the punitive action and stand taken against the officer by the state government. Responding to a question whether any official inquiry committee has been constituted to find out the truth about the alleged omissions and commissions of the officer , the Akhilesh Yadav said the truth will come out before every one in the near future and no inquiry committee is needed.
Haryana Cabinet clears ordinance for establishment of Indira Gandhi University

Haryana Cabinet which met under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Chandigarh today,approved the ordinance for establishment of Indira Gandhi University at Meerpur in Rewari district.

Chief Minister had announced on April 25, 2013 that Indira Gandhi Post Graduate Regional Centre, Meerpur would be upgraded as Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur.

This University would be started as a Unitary and Residential University with no affiliating colleges for the first 5 years.The Cabinet has also approved the Stage Carriage Scheme to check unauthorized operation of maxicabs and other vehicles.

The new scheme intends to provide coordinated and efficient road transport service in the State. 3519 permits will be offered on about 1000 routes to private operators under the Scheme.

The Cabinet also approved the draft of The Haryana Motor Vehicles Taxation Bill.The new Act will consolidate the existing Law and replace the existing Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1924
