Prez inaugurates first Gas based Power Plant at Palatana in Tripura

President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has inaugurated first Gas based Power Plant at Palatana in Tripura. AIR Correspondent reports that plant was set up by the ONGC.

The Palatana Gas Based Power Project is the First such Power Company in India to be awarded with the Clean Development Mechanism by the UNFCC i.e united nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. President in his speech said that all over the World Countries are contemplating on how to generate Electricity by non Pollution means.

He Congratulated the ONGC and Tripura Power Corporation for making Pollution Free Electricity from this Plant. He also said that for the Development of a Society and its Economy Electricity is necessary.

He also thanked the Bangladesh Government and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina for the effort in landing helping hand to this Power plant.

Bangladesh Government has allowed its Sea route for Transportation of the Heavy machines for this plant.

While Union Ministerfor Petroleum & Natural Gas Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, in his speech said that India will be Energy Independent by 2030. He said that a New Vision is rolled out to reduce crude oil imports by 50% by 2020, 75% by 2025 and eventually achieve self-sufficiency and Energy Independence for India by 2030.
Centre releases amount of Rs 145 crore from State Disaster Relief Fund to U’khand govt

The Centre has released an amount of 145 crore rupees from State Disaster Relief Fund, SDRF, to the Uttarakhand government. Talking to reporters after the Group of Ministers meeting in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said this has been done in pursuance of announcement of the Prime Minister. He informed that the Indian Air Force, IAF, has committed 13 more aircraft for relief and rescue work taking the total to 43. The IAF is also activating landing grounds at Gouchar and Dharasu in the state to establish an airbase.

Mr Tewari said measures are being taken to make operational the mobile towers in the next 24 hours which are down. There are 739 mobile towers in Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi. Out of them 207 are down. He said the situation in the state is being monitored at the level of Cabinet Secretary and regular meetings are taking place.

Terming the calamity as very sad and unfortunate, Mr Tewari said all should concentrate on finding ways to rescue those who are stuck.
K’taka: Dengue claims six deaths this year

In Karnataka, dengue has claimed six deaths this year upto June 20th. The Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khadar told media persons in Bangalore today that 1493 confirmed cases of dengue are reported to the state health department this year.

Saying that there is no specific treatment or vaccine for dengue fever, he said, that the department is engaged in health education on proper water storage practices to avoid mosquito breeding. He also informed that platelets are available in 86 blood banks across the state for the purpose of dengue patients. There were 3924 confirmed cases of dengue in Karnataka last year.
Assam: Famous Ambubachi Mahotsava of Kamakhaya temple to start tomorrow

In Assam, the famous Ambubachi Mahotsava of Kamakhaya temple will begin tomorrow. The doors of the Shakti shrine will remain closed from 12.12 noon tomorrow to the night of 25th of this month.

The Secretary of the Kamakhya Debuttar Board, Naba Sarma said that necessary preparations have been made to welcome 4 lakh devotees from across the globe. Temporary pandals have been made to shelter the pilgrims. Facilities like, water taps, temporary toilet units, fire services have been provided by the district administration.Sufficent number of doctors and nurses will also be deployed during the festival.

District administration has also tightened the security measures in the wake of the mela .A -24 hour control room has been set up at the mela premises.CCTV cameras have been installed. North East Frontier Railways has arranged special train between Katihar and Guwahati to accommodate extra rush of pilgrims.
MP govt sent 3 helicopters to U’khand to assist in rescue & relief ops

The Madhya Pradesh government has sent three helicopters to flood affected Uttarakhand to assist in rescue and relief operations. An official press release in Bhopal today said that the State Government will send one more helicopter to the flood ravaged state to gear up the rescue operations.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that saving the life of its residences stranded in Uttrakhand is the top priority of the Madhya Pradesh government. He demanded that Uttarakhand’s calamity should be declared a national disaster. Chief minister or chief secretary R Parshuram will take the stock of relief operations daily.
