Unmanned aircraft to conduct aerial survey at Kaziranga

For the first time in the country, unmanned aerial survey will be conducted at Kaziranga national park in trail basis from tomorrow in connection with the wildlife security. Powered by solar power, the unmanned aircraft will help the park authority to evaluate and strengthen security measures at Kaziranga.

Talking to newsmen in Guwahati today, state Forest minister Rockybul Hussain said that the 4 day long test flying will be conducted under the supervision of Wildlife Institute of India, WII and World Wildlife Fund, WWF, who will monitor the exercise.

The minister also said that CBI will inquire into the poaching of rhino at Kaziranga and other parts of the state. Poachers killed 29 rhinos in the state during last 15 months.


Rajasthan launches free essential diagnostic tests scheme

Rajasthan government introduced a free essential diagnostic tests scheme in government hospitals in the state on the occasion of World Health Day today.

The medical investigations include 14 tests of clinical pathology, ECG, X-ray, blood sugar, blood urea, Hb, urine complete test among others.

Second phase of the scheme, which is scheduled to be introduced on Doctor's Day on July 1, will cover Community Health Centres and will offer 28 types of free tests. In

the third and the last phase, to be implemented from the Independence Day, 15 types of tests will be made free at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and dispensaries.
Mumbai building collapse: Thane police arrest 7 more persons

Thane police have arrested seven more persons in connection with building collapse in Thane district of Maharashtra that led to death of 74 people. Earlier, the police had arrested two developers of the collapsed building.

Addressing a press conference today Thane police commissioner K.P. Raghuivanshi said that the court has remanded all of them to 14 days police custody. He said the arrested persons include assistant Municipal Commissioner Babasaheb Andale, NCP collector Hira Patil, police constable S Sayeed, Thane Municipal Corporation clerk Kisan Madke, collection agent Jabbar Patel and material supplier Afroz Alam Ansari.

Raghuvanshi informed that the Thane crime branch with the help of Anti Corruption Bureau have found that the builders who were arrested yesterday, had repeatedly bribed some government officials. He said that Thane crime branch found five lakh rupees and some important documents from the residence of suspended Deputy Municipal Commissioner Deepak Chavan.

Raghuvanshi said that investigations into the case have thrown up some shocking revelations and added that There is a big racket involved in illegal constructions. He that builders were pushing people to stay in such buildings so that it would be difficult to demolish them.

Raghuvanshi said that the investigation is still on and there is a possibility of few more arrests in the case. He assured that whoever is responsible for the building collapse incident even if they are government officials will be brought to justice.
Ranchi Mayor election: Jharkhand police seizes 22 lakh rupees

In Jharkhand, a controversy about cash for votes has erupted a day before tomorrow’s election for Mayor of Ranchi Municipal Corporation. AIR Ranchi Correspondent reports that police has seized twenty-two lakh rupees from a hotel room allegedly for use of a Congress supported women candidate. The room was booked by a local Congress leader.

The concerned candidate has denied the allegation. Police has arrested one person and the Income Tax authorities are also investigating the matter. State Election Commissioner S D Sharma has promised tough action against those found guilty. Meanwhile, all arrangements have been made to hold the tomorrow elections for local municipal bodies of Ranchi and Bundu.
Polling is on for 26 local civic bodies in Ranchi

In Jharkhand, polling is on for 26 local civic bodies. Polling which started at 7.00 a.m. today morning all over State except Ranchi and Bundu will end at 3 p.m. 8.5 lakh voters are to choose 26 Chairmen of different municipal bodies from 267 candidates whereas 2846 candidates are for the post of different Ward Commissioners.

The security has been tightened in view of the bandh called by the Naxals. AIR Ranchi correspondent reports that bandh has not affected the polling which is going on in 744 polling stations with a total of 9000 EVMs.

No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the State. Polling for Ranchi and Budu municipal bodies will take place tomorrow in which about 7.5 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise.
Pulse Polio Immunization programme in Delhi today

Another round of the Pulse Polio Immunization programme is to be launched in the national capital today to administer polio drops to children up to the age of five years.

According to a Delhi government health official, over eight thousand booths have been set up across the city to ensure its maximum reach.

Around 30 thousand health worker have been engaged to administer polio drops to the children.
British tourist holidaying in Kashmir allegedly murdered by a Dutch tourist in a houseboat

A British tourist Sarah Elizabeth holidaying in Kashmir was allegedly murdered by a Dutch tourist in a houseboat here on Friday.

Police said that the suspect D Richard was arrested in Qazigund in Srinagar Jammu National Highway, while he was trying to flee in a taxi with just his passport leaving all his belongings in the houseboat.
Two real-estate developers arrested in M’rashtra

In Maharashtra, the two real-estate developers, who illegally constructed a seven-storey building that collapsed in Thane district, killing 72 people were arrested on Saturday. The builders, Jamil Qureshi and Salim Sheikh have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The builders were missing since the building collapsed. Speaking to media persons, Thane Police Commissioner KP Raghuvanshi said that Jamil Qureshi was arrested from Uttar Pradesh and Salim Sheikh from Thane.

Meanwhile, The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has put 65 Assistant Engineers on duty across all 24 wards to check illegal constructions or modifications in buildings or flats across Mumbai.

Speaking to media persons, Additional Municipal Commissioner Mohan Adtani said that the role of the Assistant Engineers will be to detect unauthorized constructions, issue notices as per provisions of law.
Punjab Govt. initiates several steps to make the state power surplus

Punjab Government has taken up several steps to make the state power surplus. Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) Chief Executive ,TPS Sidhu said in Chandigarh that private companies are setting up 300 megawatt solar power projects involving an investment of 3000 crore rupees.

He said, the state government has reached an agreement to purchase power from these projects.

PEDA has also given assistance to farmers to set up small solar power units to run tube wells. About 500 tube wells run by solar power are working in the state successfully.

From this month Punjab Government starts giving 70 per cent subsidy on solar powered submersible pumps for drip irrigation. PEDA has also decided to distribute 100 solar powered submersible pumps among farmers.
