Massive fire in Mumbai suburban high-rise, blaze controlled

A massive fire broke out at a 15- storey residential building in Marol in the suburbs of Mumbai this afternoon. The fire started from 10th floor of a building at around 12.20 pm.

Fire tenders and water tankers were rushed to the spot and was brought under control . All the residents were evacuated and no one was reported hurt in the fire.

Punjab: CBI arrests Deputy Commissioner of IT Tarun Bhatacharya & CA Ashwani Kumar

In Punjab, a team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax posted at Ludhiana, Tarun Kumar Bhatacharya and a Jalandhar based Chartered Accountant (CA), Ashwani Kumar from Jalandhar, early today morning.

AIR Correspondent quoting highly placed CBI sources reports R both of them were arrested on a specific tip-off from an affected businessman from whom the Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax asked for bribe of 10 lakh Rs through the CA, to settle his assessment case. However, the bribe money was later settled at 6 Lakh Rs.

The businessman was called by the duo at Jalandhar, last night, to give the bribe money where both of them were arrested.
Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar to take oath as new Chief Justice of HP HC tomorrow

Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, Judge of the Bombay High Court will take oath as the new Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court tomorrow, April 4.

Governor Urmila Singh will administer the oath of Office to him at a Rajbhawan in Shimla.

Justice Khanwilkar hails from Pune in Maharashtra and was appointed Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in March 2000 and confirmed as permanent Judge in April 2002.
NABARD K'taka first in country to promote producer's collectives

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, NABARD in Karnataka has disbursed 750 crore rupees financial assistance for creating rural infrastructures like Raitha Samparka Kendras, Anganwadis, schools, ITIs, rural roads and bridges during 2012-13.

The Chief General Manager of NABARD in the state, Mr.SNA Jinnah informed media persons in Bangalore today that the bank recorded an all time high financial assistance of 8424 crore rupees, registering year on year growth of 40 percent during this period.

He informed that NABARD in Karnataka stands first in the country to promote producer’s Collectives, extending over 16 crore rupees assistance to agriculture based Cooperative societies.

Under the Tribal Development Programme, Siddhi tribesmen of Uttar Kannada and Sholigas of B R Hills were provided financial support of nine crore rupees thereby improving the lives of 19,800 tribals.

Mr.Jinnah said NABARD will facilitate 11 District Cooperative banks to have Core Banking facility by this June, so that direct cash transfer benefit scheme can be fully implemented.

The General Manager of NABARD Bharath Kumar informed that the Bank is working on programme to provide 100 percent lighting in rural areas through solar energy.

He also said that the Bank disbursed over 27 crore rupees last year to improve warehousing capacities in the state.

It also helped improve sugarcane productivity from 40 to 100 tonnes per hectare and ragi productivity by 40 percent.
621 drinking water projects completed under centrally sponsored Bundelkhand package in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, 621 drinking water projects have been completed under centrally sponsored Bundelkhand package so far.

Over Twenty one crore rupees have been spent on these projects.

A total of 1287 drinking water projects worth 100 crore rupees have been sanction in six districts of Bundelkhand region in the state under the project.

These districts are Sagar, Chattarpur, Panna, Damoh, Datia and Tikamgarh.
Bihar assembly: Unruly scenes witnessed over Contingent-AC & Detailed Contingent-DC Bill

In Bihar assembly unruly scenes were witnessed with the opposition strongly protesting against the Contingent (AC) and Detailed Contingent (DC) Bill.

This forced the speaker to adjourn the house before lunch. The opposition party also disrupted the question hour over the same issue. Quoting CAG report opposition demanded CBI enquiry on the alleged embezzlement of 18797 crore Rupees DC Bill.

Ruling out opposition charges state deputy chief minister Sushil Kuamr Modi said that as on 1st of April 2013 only 5451 crore Rupees DC bill are pending.

He further said that the remaining pending bill will be submitted shortly. CAG report said that Bihar government has encashed 30305 crore Rupees through Abstract contingent (AC) bill out of which Detailed Contingent (DC) bill of only Rupees 11508 crore has been submitted till August 2012.

It may be noted that CAG report was tabled yesterday of the floor of the house.
Koodankulam plant in TN to achieve criticality soon: Site director R S Sundar

The Koodankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu will achieve criticality soon according to its site director R S Sundar.

With the penultimate tests conducted successfully, much awaited power generation at the Indo-Russian 1000 MW nuclear power plant is expected to start this month.

At present the testing of high tech instruments connected with steam relief valves under operating conditions are being conducted at the nuclear reactor which will be completed tomorrow.

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board officials will conduct security checks and then the nuclear reactor will achieve criticality. Meanwhile , high security was provided to Koodankulam Nuclear power plant as more than 2500 protesters in 300 boats organised a sea-siege of Anna Vijay Nagar staff residential township near the nuclear power plant today.
Jairam: Scheme Himayat launched in J&K in 5 yr period 2011-12 to 2016-17 progressing well

Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh has said that the scheme Himayat launched in Jammu and Kashmir two years ago for providing training and jobs to one lakh youth in a five year period 2011-12 to 2016-17 was progressing well.

As of now, 45 HIMAYAT training centres have been set up across 19 districts. The Minister was addressing a function at Zorawar Auditorium of Jammu University, where 947 youth were given job letters.

Jairam Ramesh said, over 5,000 youth had been provided jobs in various companies within and outside the State since the inception of the Himayat scheme .

The Minister said over 15,000 youth would be given training and placements during the year 2013-14. Priority will be given to youth who are school drop-outs, have studied up to 10th class or 12th class.

Jairam Ramesh informed that under Mahila Sahayta Samuh, 800 crores rupees will be spent on socio-economic welfare of women in Jammu and Kashmir.
