Train rams into truck at unmanned crossing in Odisha;three persons dead
In Odisha, three persons have been killed when the Trivandrum-Shalimar Express train rammed into a mini truck early this morning at an unmanned level crossing in Chatipur village near Kaipadar Road railway station in Khordha district. The mini truck was crossing the level crossing when the accident occurred. Another goods train coming from the opposite direction in the nearby track had also hit the mini truck.
The deceased include driver of the mini truck and his two assistants. Train communication between Khordha Road and Berhampur in Odisha has been disrupted following the accident.
Senior railway officials have rushed to the accident spot.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will launch projects worth 3,337 crore rupees to give a boost to the development in Noida and Greater Noida from his official residence in Lucknow today. The bounty includes two new affordable housing projects, a state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant, two power generation units, a government inter college for girls, construction orders for a medical university promised last year and a 200-bed district hospital with a trauma centre.
AIR Lucknow correspondent quoting official sources reports that the government will construct a destitute home in Noida in addition to living facilities for young girls between age 7 and 17. Two thousand crore rupees is to be pumped into Noida project alone, possibly the single biggest development push for any district.

Assets case: Jagan judicial remand extended;CBI to file chargesheet against pharma cos

The CBI, probing the alleged disproportionate assets case involving YSR Congress Chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, said on Monday that it could file a supplementary chargesheet in the case by tuesday. The central agency made this submission before a
special CBI court in Hyderabad while seeking extension of judicial remand of Jagan and other accused.
The supplementary chargesheet is likely to be filed
against three pharma companies, after the CBI, during its
investigation collected more details against them.
Meanwhile the court extended the judicial remand of Jagan, former Andhra Pradesh Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao, industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, and others till April 8.
Jagan was arrested by CBI on May 27 last year on
corruption charges and has been lodged in Chanchalguda Jail since then.

Lankan Navy chase away TN fishermen near Kachaitheevu

The Sri Lankan Navy chased away Rameswaram fishermen who were fishing in eight boats near Kachatheevu. The Rameswaram fishermen resumed fishing yesterday after 17 days of continuous strike urging the release of 19 Tamil fishermen lodged in a Lankan jail. The Rameswaram fishermen had gone in more than 600 boats for fishing. Some of the fishermen who returned said that the Lankan Navy had destroyed their fishing nets and other fishing equipment before chasing them away.

Guj govt to offer incentives for film industry to shoot in state

The Gujarat government has said it is working on a policy to encourage film shootings in the state which will also provide a boost to tourism. Under the policy, the film industry will be offered incentives for shooting movies in Gujarat. An important feature is that the district has achieved 33 percent success more than the target fixed for family planning operations. WB EC challenges state Panchayat poll schedule; HC to hear petition today

The West Bengal Election Commission's petition challenging the Panchayat poll schedule announced by the state government will come up for hearing before the Calcutta High Court today. The State Election Commission yesterday moved the court against the unilateral announcement by the state government scheduling panchyata polls on 26th and 30th of this month. The Commission, in its petition sought direction from the court that the poll dates should be announced by the government in consultation with the State Election Commission. The State BJP has also filed a case in the Calcutta High Court saying the notification issued by the state government should be rejected.

Kerala's Minister for Forest, Film, and Sports K B Ganesh Kumar has resigned . He submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy late last night at his official residence in Thiruvananthapuram. The resignation follows an allegation by his wife, Yamini Thankachy, that she was the victim of domestic violence. Based on a complaint by his wife, the police registered a case against Ganesh Kumar.

Swiss tourist rape case:hearing today in MP court

Ratan Suryawanshi, who facilitated registration of the FIR after the alleged gangrape of a Swiss tourist last month, recorded his statement on monday, before a special court in Datia of Madhya Pradesh. Sources in prosecution said Suryawanshi recorded his statement before additional district judge Jitendra Kumar Sharma.
Suryawanshi, who teaches English at a government college in Datia, had helped police in overcoming the language barrier and subsequent registration of FIR after the Swiss couple approached them following the incident on March 15. The trial in the case began on March 30.
The court has posted the next hearing for today which
will take place in a fast-track manner, sources said.
The 39-year-old Swiss tourist was allegedly gangraped on March 15 when she was camping along with her male companion in a tent at Datia.

Kalam to launch 24-hour power supply scheme in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, former president Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam will launch state government’s Atal Jyoti scheme in Bhopal district today. Our correspondent reports that under the scheme 24 hour power is supplied to rural areas.
Bhopal will be the seventh district after Jabalpur , Mandla, Burhapur, Umaria, Shahdol and Anuppur in the state to get 24 hour power supply. 15,506 lakh rupees have been spent on the scheme in Bhopal and a total of 81 feeders have been separated. The scheme will benefit 499 villages in the district. The state government has announced that all the villages of the state would get 24 hour power supply by the first week of June this year. For this it will purchase power from different sources. The main opposition party Congress has questioned the implementation of the scheme in the election year as the state is not self-dependent in power generation
