25 poachers arrested in Meghalaya
In a major success to curb illegal hunting, 25 poachers were arrested and body parts of endangered deers seized from them from a remote village in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, officials of State Forest Department said in Shillong today.
Officials of forest department arrested the poachers from Mawkarah village while they were returning in two vehicles from a hunting trip yesterday. Arms, dried venison, three hides of Barking Deer (Muntiacus Muntjak) and the head of a fully grown female Sambar (Cervus Unicolor) were seized from them.

In West Bengal, the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, SDJM of Salt Lake today remanded the owner of the Sardah Chit Fund company, Sudipto Sen and two other for 14 days police custody. The trio were produced before the SDJM court this afternoon after the Kashmir police arrested them from Sonmarg on last Monday. AIR Correspondent reports that large number of depositors and agents of the company who have lost their everything assembled near the court to hear the verdict. Opposition Congress supportors staged a demonstration in front of the court building accusing the ruling party for their alleged relationship with the chit fund company. 5 army personnel killed, 4 injured in Rajasthan road accident In Rajasthan 5 army personnel died and 4 got injured in a road accident in Jaisalmer district today. The accident occured near Sonu when an army truck overturned and 2 jawans died on the spot while 3 died in the hospital during treatment. 4 other injured jawans were air lifted by helicopter and have been admitted in the air force hospital of Jaisalmer. The truck was carrying ammunition. 2 killed, woman injured in incident of explosion in UP In Uttar Pradesh two brothers were killed and a woman injured in an incident of explosion at Tajganj area in Taj city Agra today. Injured have been admitted in local hospital. The Deputy Director General of Police Agra range Bhanu Bhashkar told our Allahabad correspondent that the incident occurred when an army bomb exploded in a scrap dealer's shop in the area. He said victims have been identified as Ram Niwas and his brother Jitendra. They died on the spot and one Maya Devi is admitted at the hospital. He said an inquiry has been initiated by the local police about source of supply scrap that was exploded. |
In Madhya Pradesh, police will produce the main accused of Seoni rape case Firoz Khan in Lakhnadoun court of Seoni district this evening. He was arrested from Bhagalpur district of Bihar on Tuesday. Police sources have said that accused has accepted his crime.
Punjab: Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti polls postponed for 1 week

In Punjab, Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls have been postponed for one week. Now the polls will be held on May 19. Earlier polls were scheduled for May 12.
The notification will be issued on May 3 and the nomination process will start the same day. The last date of nominations is May 7, while scrutiny of papers will take place on May 8 and last date of withdrawal of papers will be May 9.State Election Commissioner ,Shivinder Singh Brar said in Chandigarh that counting of votes will take place on May 21 and the results will be declared the same day.

Seven arrested in murder of Kunda DSP remanded in 5 days police custody

Seven persons arrested in connection with the murder of Kunda DSP Zia-ul-Haq were today remanded in five day police custody by a special CBI court in Lucknow. The order was passed by Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Mirza Jeenat on an application moved by the agency.
The CBI yesterday arrested the seven accused in Pratapgarh district. The Agency sources had said the seven persons allegedly incited the mob to kill the DSP, who had arrived on the scene after getting information about the murder of village head Nanhe Yadav.They said one of the persons, who allegedly led the mob to kill the officer, was Bhulle Pal. The sources said the agency has recovered the weapon allegedly used to kill Haq.
