The entire North India continued to remain in the grip of severe cold wave conditions. In Uttar Pradesh three more deaths have been reported from different districts of the state. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the death toll due to the biting cold has gone up to 89. Our Correspondent reports that the intense cold wave continue to disrupt normal life in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions.
The intense cold wave continued to disrupt normal life in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions. Dense fog and chilly wind forced people to remain indoors. However there was bright sunshine in several districts of Gorakhpur andVaranasi divisions. According to met office, the day’s maximum temperature was recorded up to 9 degrees below normal in many districts of eastern and western regions. The rail and road traffic remained disrupted. Our Chandigarh correspondent says that cold and foggy conditions returned in most parts of Punjab and Haryana.
Thick blanket of fog which engulfed the region, crippled normal life today. Air, rail and road traffic remained out of gear as the visibility remained poor during the day and sun was visible for a short time only. Most of the flights from Chandigarh airport were cancelled or rescheduled, several trains criss-crossing the region are running hours behind schedule. Four persons were killed in Ambala today when a car collided with a truck due to poor visibility. Due to holiday people were seen around fire during the day in the region. Cold weather is considered useful for Rabi crops while fog for a longer period can be harmful for vegetables, fruit and fodder. Jaswinder Singh Randhawa, AIR News, Chandigarh.
The entire Kashmir Valley is reeling under a severe cold wave following fresh snow fall that continued till last evening. Our Srinagar correspondent reports that snowfall has been substantial in higher reaches and mild in the plain.
Cold wave continued to sweep across the national capital leaving Delhites to shiver under biting cold condition and led to plummeting the day temperature below normal. According to the MeT department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 17 degree celsius which is 4 degree below normal while the minimum settled at 7.7 degree Celsius.
Our correspondent reports trains services were affected due to dense fog in northern region. Due to the late arrival of several trains, Railways had to rescheduled their departure timings while services of seven trains have been cancelled.
In Rajasthan, Sri ganganagar was the coldest place in the state where the mercury plummeted to 0.6 degree celsius. A dispatch from our correspondent:
The whole state is in the grip of cold wave and fog. Sriganganagar district was the coldest place of the state with 0.6 degree celsius temperature which is near to freezing point. Train and Air services were affected due to thick blanket of fog. Meanwhile, NGOs have managed several temporary residences in the capital and the other cities for the needy people.
