Siddaramaiah is new K’taka CM

Mr. Siddaramaiah will be the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. He was today unanimously elected as leader of the Congress legislative Party which won the recent Assembly Elections in Karnataka. An announcement to this effect was made by the senior congress leader and party MLA R.V. Deshpande in Bangalore this evening after the Congress Legislative Party meeting .Mr. Deshpandy said, that Siddaramaiah was chosen unanimously after Central Congress observer A.K.Antony announced his name in the meeting. AIR correspondent reports that secret ballot was held before the election of the Legislature Party leader.

Chemists across Delhi observe strike against new drug policy

Chemists across the national capital are observing a strike today against the Centre's new drug policy. They are demanding that no reduction should be made in trade margins as proposed in the policy.

Terming the policy as unrealistic, they are also opposed to reduced profit margins of the chemists, maintenance prescription records and installation of air conditioners in shops.

Medicine shops remain closed in Odisha

In Odisha, about 17,000 medicine shops remained closed today following the nation-wide strike call given by the All-India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists.

However, the shops at the premises of the government hospitals remained open for the patients or the customers for their urgent need. People are seen standing in bee lines in these medicine shops to buy emergency medicines.

The Utkal Druggist and Chemist Association has extended all support to the protest call given by All-India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists against the new drug policy of the Centre, which reduced their trade margin on medicines. The protesters across the state, staged dharna at every district administration office.

In Bhubaneswar, the druggists and chemists demonstrated in front of the Raj Bhavan to support the nation-wide strike.

The medicine traders in the country have been demanding the abolition of Drugs Act-2008 Amendment in the new drug policy-2013 and elimination of FDI in retail pharmacy.

7 killed in Uttarakhand as bus fells into gorge in Tehri

In Uttarakhand, seven persons were killed and 16 other injured when a bus in which they travelling, fell into a gorge near Chowki Dagar of Kirti Nagar Block in Tehri district today.

The injured have been admitted to Base Hospital in Srinagar- Garhwal, where the condition of a few is stated to be critical.
Class XII girl student allegedly shot dead by boy in south Delhi

A girl student of Class XII, was shot dead this morning allegedly by a boy in her house in south Delhi.

A senior police official said, the boy entered the house in Budh Vihar in Munirka area and pumped bullets into her chest.

After shooting her, the boy whose identity is yet to be ascertained, fled from the scene. The girl was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Intense heat wave scorches Odisha

Odisha continues to reel under intense heat wave and humid conditions. Some parts of western Odisha like Sambalpur, Sonepur and Jharsuguda sizzled as mercury shot up to 44 degree Celsius. Parts of central Odisha such as Angul, Talcher and Phulbani also recorded a rise in the day temperature.

The weather office, however, had words of relief as it predicted that temperature will start to drop from 12th of this month. Though the low pressure formed off Sri Lanka coast remained uncertain in view of a cyclonic storm brewing near equator, the trough along the east and southern coast could bring in showers and lead to a drop in the mercury.

While rain and thundershowers are likely to occur over some parts during the next 48 hours, the heat wave too will continue to prevail over some parts of interior Odisha. Hot and sweltering climate will be experienced over coastal districts of the State.
Heat wave sweeps entire UP; Allahabad state’s hottest place

Intense heat wave is sweeping entire Uttar Pradesh. Allahabad remained hottest place in the state where the maximum temperature was recorded 5 notches above normal at 46.3 degrees Celsius during the past 24 hours.

The maximum temperature is varying between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius in most parts of the district. Normal life is badly hampered due to the soaring temperature and hot wind.

AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports, Blazing Sun has compelled people to remain indoors. Acute shortage of electricity in cities has caused drinking water crisis in city areas. People are coming out after covering their faces and body parts.

Cases of heat strokes are also coming to hospitals. Voluntary organisation have arranged shelters and drinking water stall in cities to provide relief to people.
Parts of MP reel under heat wave like conditions

In Madhya Pradesh, several parts of the state are facing heat wave like conditions.

AIR Bhopal Correspondent reports that mercury has crossed 42 degree Celsius in several places with the sun spewing fire in several parts of state forcing people to remain indoors during the day time.

Damoh, Naugaon and Khajuraho recorded maximum temperature of 45 degrees during the last 24 hours. Over two dozen districts recorded maximum temperature of more than 42 degrees.

In capital Bhopal streets wore a deserted look in the day. The Met Department has predicted that the temperature will increase in the coming days.
