AIR Jalandhar completes 64 years of existence as public broadcaster

All India Radio, Jalandhar has completed 64 years of its existence as a public broadcaster today.

On this occasion, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Mr. Manish Tewari has extended his heartiest greetings to the staff members of the station for tirelessly working to disseminate useful information amongst the public. He has also greeted and thanked its worthy listeners for continuously bestowing their love and support.

Chief Executive of Prasar Bharati, Mr. Jawahar Sircar, in a message has extended his greetings to the staff and also to the guest participants.

All India Radio, Jalandhar has played a pivotal role in disseminating information during rehabilitation of refugees after partition in 1947.

It has enthused the morale of countrymen during two wars with Pakistan and provided useful and important information to them.

Jairam expresses concern over implementation of MNREGA in MP

Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has expressed concern over the implementation of MNREGA in Madhya Pradesh. Addressing state Congress’s Parivartan Yatra in Dhar district today, he said that the per cent of families benefitted from the rural employment scheme is low in the state. He said that the Centre has provided adequate funds to Madhya Pradesh, but its government blames the union government to hide its failures. Mr. Ramesh informed that one lakh 20 thousand Indira awaas have been sanctioned for the state by the Centre.
I&B Min: Akali-BJP govt in Punjab pushed state into vicious debt trap

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Mr. Manish Tewari has said that the Akali-BJP government in Punjab had pushed the state into a vicious debt trap and ridiculed the state government for describing it as a productive debt. He warned that it is a cause of serious concern as the state is dangerously heading towards bankruptcy.

Addressing a public meetings in support of the party candidates contesting Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections in his Ludhiana Parliamentary constituency, today, Tewari pointed out, the state debt according to its own Finance Minister is likely to cross one lakh crore rupees by the end of this financial year and it was continuously increasing at an alarming rate.

The Minister revealed that every year the Akali government is borrowing over 13,000 (thirteen thousand) crores rupees. Of this amount 11,500 crore rupees is being spent on debt servicing. He said the rate at which the state is borrowing, the total debt will cross one lakh fifty thousand crore rupees by the end of the term of this government. This will be impossible to be paid by any government.
1 nomination paper of Independent candidate rejected in UP’s Handia Assembly seat bye elections

In Uttar Pradesh one nomination paper of an Independent candidate was rejected today during scrutiny of papers filed for Handia Assembly seat bye elections at Allahabad.

A total of 15 candidates have filed their nomination. All major political parties including Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party have fielded their nominees for the bye election.

AIR correspondent reports that May 18 is last day for withdrawal. Polling will be held on June 2. The by election has been necessitated after death of ruling Samajwadi Party MLA Mr. Mahesh Narayan Singh.
