NHRC issues notice to Maharashtra DGP, SP Ahmednagar over report of police beating up couple

National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has issued notices to Maharashtra DGP and Superintendent of Police Ahmednagar over an incident of an 18-year- old girl and her fiancee being allegedly beaten up by a senior police officer when they went to register an FIR. The rights body has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report alleging that the girl and her fiancee were beaten with a belt by the officer in Ahmednagar when they had gone to lodge an FIR about her abduction and that she being dumped at a brothel from where she was rescued on 5th of last month. An NHRC release said the report, if true, raises a serious issue of human rights violation and asked the officials to submit reports within four weeks. It has also directed the senior police officials to inform as to why the FIR was not registered immediately after rescuing the victim on 5th January.

TN Fisheries Minister gives Rs. 3 lakh each to family of two farmers who committed suicide

Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Jayapal today gave compensation of three lakh rupees each to the family of two farmers who committed suicide because of crop loss at Nagapattinam. Samba cultivation on 40,000 hectares, constituting one-third of the total cultivation of the crop in the district, was totally affected because of lack of water. Meanwhile, the drought affected farmers are urging the state government to disburse the announced 15,000 rupees per acre compensation without any further delay.
AIR correspondent reports that the level of Mettur Dam was 29.80 feet today against its full capacity of 120 feet. The inflow has increased to 1,614 cusecs and 500 cusecs of water was released for drinking water purposes.

The Administration of Lahual -Spiti & Kinnaur have put on its machinery on high alert after fresh snowfall. It have badly effected the normal life in these Districts.
The road connectivity from Shimla to Rampur on National Highway has been blocked near Kufri and Narkanda due to snowfall.The other parts of the states lashed with rain again today bringing mercury down and whole stay is in the grip of bone chilling cold waves.
2nd Vegetable Expo in Haryana to be held in Karnal

The 2nd Vegetable Expo in Haryana is being held in Gharaunda, Karnal from Monday. It is being organized by the state Horticulture Mission in collaboration with Union Ministry of Agriculture and National Horticulture Board.The main objective of this expo is to encourage the vegetable cultivation in the State.An official spokesman said at Chandigarh that the Vegetable Expo would have demonstration of hybrid cultivation technologies under poly house and open field condition over an area of 15 acres. Besides there will be a display and competition of vegetable produce in five categories.
Fresh case of illegal land denotification filed against Yeddyurappa

A fresh case of illegal land denotification was filed against former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in the Lokayuktha court on Saturday.Complainant Hunsur K. Chandrasekhar has alleged in his petition that a five acre land was denotified in Rajarajeshwarinagara in Bangalore to benefit Tumkur MP Basavaraj and Nippani MLA Kaka Saheb Patil.The denotification was done in 2010 when Yeddyurappa was the Chief Minister of the state.After allowing the case to be registered, Lokayuktha Judge Justice N K Sudhindra Rao posted the hearing of the case to February 19th.
Mamata Banerjee to flag off BCIM car rally next Friday

In a bid to building bond and fostering friendship among the participating countries, the first edition of Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar car rally from Kolkata to Kunming will be flagged off by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on next Friday.
Around 80 participants of the Car Rally in 20 Cars representing the four countries will traverse the 3,000 km route from Kolkata to Kunming over a period of 12 days.
Miscreants kidnap Power grid engineer Chintala Paidi in Assam

In Assam, unidentified miscreants kidnapped Power grid engineer Chintala Paidi Raju last night from Baksa district. The Deputy Commissioner of Baksa said that the engineer hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was kidnapped by four miscreants at gun point. A massive search operation is on to rescue the 28 years old engineer safely.
