The External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid today said he is looking forward to take the bilateral ties between India and United States to a higher level encompassing diverse sectors. Mr Khurshid said this to new US Secretary of State John Kerry who called him up. Mr Kerry, who favours strong ties with India, thanked Mr Khurshid .
AIR correspondent quoting official reports ,Khurshid said he is looking forward to work with Kerry to take forward the India-US bilateral strategic relationship, which is at a historically unprecedented high, to a higher level. Mr Kerry was sworn in as the US Secretary of State on February 2, replacing Hillary Clinton. The US Secretary of State is a strong advocate of peace talks between India and Pakistan.
Def Min inaugurates Aero India; says country will evolve into a major aerospace hub

Asia’s biggest, biennial air show and aviation exhibition, Aero India-2013, got off to a flying start in Bangalore today. Defence Minister A K Antony inaugurated the five-day event in the presence of Civil Aviation minister Ajit Singh, Chief Minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shetter, and Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh among other dignitaries.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr.Antony said the Indian Aviation sector is growing at the fastest pace and will evolve into a major hub for Aerospace operations and outsourcing in the coming days. He underscored the need to create a strong defence industrial base in the country. He said India offers big opportunities for major international aerospace companies to enter into new alliances and forge partnerships with Indian industry and set up bases in India.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Singh informed that the GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation system Gagan will be operational in July.
This he said will extend safety dynamics to the aircraft, especially flying over difficult terrains like the north east.
The Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to give approval for 15 more green field airports in the country as part of efforts to augment the civil Aviation infrastructure here.
During the inaugural, the Karnataka Aerospace policy and Brahmaand World Defence update was released by the Defence Minister.

SC directs Centre to formulate policy for regulation of acid sale to prevent attacks |

The Supreme Court today directed the Union Home Secretary to convene a meeting of Chief Secretaries of all states and administrators of Union Territories to formulate policy for effective regulation of the sale of acid to prevent acid attacks.
The apex court bench headed by Justice R.M. Lodha said the meeting will also formulate policy for treatment after care and rehabilitation of acid attack victims.
The court said the meeting will also evolve policy for compensation to the victims of acid attacks including creations of a separate corpus for this purpose.
The court noted a submission by Additional Solicitor General Mohan Prasaran that the government has already amended the Indian Penal Code making acid attack a separate offence.
The court's direction to the union home secretary came in the course of the hearing of a petition seeking treatment, rehabilitation and compensation of acid attack victims.
Use central scheme funds to address allied farm sector challenges: Pawar to states |

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today asked the states to utilise funds available under various central schemes to address major challenges like shortage of feed and fodder, effective control of animal diseases and skill development among others.
Emphasising that allied farm sector has potential to drive total farm growth to targeted 4 per cent, he asked the state governments to allocate 25 per cent of funds under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, RKVY for livestock and fisheries.
In eleven states the share of livestock and fisheries sector in RKVY was only 15 per cent or less during the 11th five year plan. Addressing a conference of State ministers in New Delhi, Mr Pawar said, launching of RKVY has resulted in flow of additional resources for farm and allied sectors, while empowering and providing flexibility to the states.
Mr Pawar informed that in the current fiscal, the projects amounting 1,165 crore rupees have been sanctioned under the scheme for animal husbandry, dairying and fisheries sector.
The Centre has allocated more than 160 crore rupees to states, as against the total of over 500 crore rupees under NMPS for the 2012-13 fiscal.
The Minister said to meet the increasing demand, the minister said India needs to raise annual milk production to an average of 6 million tonne over the next 10-12 years. Govt to set up 200 community colleges on pilot basis this year

The Government is to set up two hundred community colleges on pilot basis in existing colleges and polytechnics from the academic session 2013.
Addressing an international conference on community colleges in New Delhi this morning, Human Resources Development Minister M.M. Pallam Raju said this will assist in providing high quality relevant skills education at low cost to learners to enhance employment, including self-employment opportunities locally.
He said industry, including business, services, agriculture and allied sectors will be associated at all levels of activities in these colleges such as development of curriculum and training of trainers and teachers. Mr Raju said there are gaps in the skilling level and education system which needs to be bridged.
The minister said as every year more than thirty lakh graduates are passing out, there is a strong need to increase their employability.
Noting that education plays a vital role in nurturing human beings and a unique investment in building a strong nation, the minister called for coordinated efforts among the Centre, States and the concerned ministries to provide quality education. |
Delhi court awards death sentence to serial killer Chandrakant Jha

Serial killer Chandrakant Jha was today sentenced to death by a Delhi court in another case of murder and dumping the body near Tihar Jail after beheading and chopping off body parts of the victim, as his case fell in the rarest of rare category.
Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau awarded death penalty to 46-year-old Jha, a native of Madhepura in Bihar . Earlier, the same court had sentenced him to death and life imprisonment till his death in two other cases of murder, in which also he had chopped off the head and limbs of the victims and had dumped the bodies outside Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
In this case, Jha had murdered one Anil Mandal in 2006 and had dumped his body outside the jail after chopping off the head and limbs.
The other two murder cases are also similar in which he had killed one Upender and another person whom Jha referred to as Dalip, both in 2007. |
Call public to provide the govt. with information about Wal Mart's lobbying activities to enter India

In its probe into global retail giant Wal-Mart's lobbying activities in the US for entry into India, the government today asked the general public to provide it with all the important information available with them on the matter.
The government has appointed a one-man Inquiry Committee, headed by former Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court Justice Mukul Mudgal, to inquire into reports on the US lobbying activities of
Wal-Mart for access to India market. The Committee has to submit its report within three months and it is being provided administrative and functional support by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in its probe. |
