Ten persons killed in school bus-autorickshaw collision in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, 10 persons lost their lives and six have been injured in a road accident in Mathura this morning. The incident occurred when a school bus collided with an autorickshaw carrying more than 16 people on the Mathura-Brindawan road around 8.00 a.m. All the injured have been admitted to the Mathura district hospital.

No sand excavation in drought-hit villages: HC to Maha govt

The Bombay High Court has restrained the Maharashtra Government from allowing excavation of sand in drought-hit villages. The court said, this would cause shortage of potable water for people and animals.

The Court was hearing a petition filed by Rajendra Eknath Dhande, who sought a direction to the authorities to disallow sand excavation in drought-hit Khatgaon village of Karmala taluka in Solapur district.

Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Anoop Mohta were of the view that sand excavation in drought-hit areas should be banned totally as it deprives the people of their basic requirement of water.

Punjab Industry Chamber to make Indo-Pak Trade Expo annual feature

In Punjab, keeping in view the unprecedented response to the Indo-Pak Trade Expo (IPEX-13), PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Punjab has decided to make it an annual feature in Jalandhar. The five day expo, which has concluded Monday evening has received more than 50,000 footfalls. PHD Chamber’s Regional Director Dalip Sharma said that the aim of such expos, which are being organized in cooperation with The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is to forge better people-to-people relations, culminating into trade relations between the two nations. Pakistani traders said that expos strengthens bridge between the two Punjabs. The two sides have been making efforts to strengthen the economic relations between the countries. Chairman of SAARC Business Coordination Committee from Pakistan, Khurshid Barlas told AIR that about a crore rupees business had been done during the expo. He said the next would be held at Chandigarh in April by the name Made in Pakistan.

Stalin among hundreds arrested for TESO organised TN rall & road roko

DMK Treasurer .M.K.Stalin and hundreds of Party workers including former ministers and Members of Parliament who tried to indulge in rail and road roko were arrested in various parts of the State today. The protest called by the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation in which DMK is the organiser, demanded that India should support the resolution brought at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Commercial establishments in certain districts were also closed down due to the protest.
Meghalaya Council of Ministers sworn in

Eleven member Council of Ministers of the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance-II headed by Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma was sworn-in today. Governor, Mr. R.S. Mooshahary administered the oath. Rowell Lyngdoh and Dr. R.C. Laloo were sworn-in as Deputy Chief Ministers. Other Ministers who were sworn-in included Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh, Mr. Prestone Tynsong, Mr. A.L. Hek, Mrs. Debora Marak, Mr. Zenith M. Sangma, Mrs. Roshan Warjri, Mr. Clement C. Marak, Dr. (Mrs) Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh and Mr. Sniawbhalang Dhar. Their portfolios would be made known later, official sources said. Large number of party supporters of the newly inducted ministers and high officials came to witness the swearing ceremony held at the premises of Raj Bhavan surrounded by lush pine trees.
UP Board exams begin; govt helpline set up for students, teachers & parents to lodge complaints

In Uttar Pradesh, the High School and Intermediate Board examinations are beginning from today. UP Board officials claimed that all measures have been made for smooth conduct of the examinations.

AIR Lucknow correspondent quoting official sources reports, this year, around 65 lakh students are taking the UP board exams, of which approximately. 34 lakh are for High School and 27 Lakh for Intermediate. UP Board has set 10,474 examination centers in the state for these students. Of these, around 4,000 centres have been marked as sensitive. Board officials said special invigilators have been put on duty at these centers. To curb cheating in exams, UP Madhyamil Sinshak Sangh (UPMSS) has also launched a helpline where students, parents and teachers can lodge complaints in case they are harassed by education mafia.
Left Front MPs from Kerala meet PM on issue of Italian marines

The Left Front MPs from Kerala today met the Prime Minister on the issue of Italian marines who have declined to return to India to face murder trial. They were allowed to go to Italy after the Supreme Court granted them parole to cast their votes in their country. Dr. Manmohan Singh assured the delegation that New Delhi will take up the matter with the Italian Government.
FICCI Frames-conclave of media and industry opens in Mumbai

The 14th edition of FICCI Frames will open in Mumbai on Tuesday. This year’s event is based on the theme “A tryst with destiny - Engaging a billion consumers”. The annual conclave of the media and entertainment industry, FICCI Frames 2013 will discuss many topics like digitization, censorship, marketing, exhibition and distribution. Being the 100th year of Indian cinema, FICCI Frames will also launch a film tourism initiative called ‘Shoot at Site'. It will attempt to give participants some insider tips on location scouting, production facilities and navigating through state-specific production benefits across India. Marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and South Korea, FICCI Frames 2013 will focus on culture, tourism, entertainment and business between the two nations. A 40 member Korean delegation will be participating in the event.
