Government today said, it will take a decision on the vote in United Nations Human Rights Council on the resolution against Sri Lanka after consulting DMK and other allies. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said this in Lucknow today.Earlier, addressing a public meeting at Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said, if the US resolution on Srilanka contains a demand for credible investigation, the government will support it.Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, V. Narayanasamy also told Reporters in New Delhi that the government is committed to the protection of Sri Lankan Tamils and the Prime Minister will take a call as and when required.DMK chief Karunanidhi has said, India must move amendments to the US resolution to declare genocide and war crimes were committed by Sri Lankan Army and administrators. In a letter to the Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Karunanidhi urged him to address the issue.Meanwhile, protests by students and some Tamil organisations continued in Tamil Nadu against alleged genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka and condemnation of President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has welcomed the Central Government's proposal to review the critieria for declaring backward states. . Addressing a party rally in Delhi this afternoon, he urged an immediate implementation of the commitment made by union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in his budget speech and a time-bound action on granting special status to Bihar and other backward states.
Wth these limited resources we have begun to reach different stages of development.This is the time when the Centre should cooperate and if it does and grants special state status to Bihar then Bihar too can join the category of developed states.
Pointing out Bihar has been pushed to the bottom of the development index, Mr. Nitish Kumar said if policies change, the benefit will accrue to other backward states as well. Nitish Kumar said, time has come to bring together people of all backward regions so that the real development of thecountry can be ensured. He alleged that Bihar has not recieved equal treatment from the Centre in the terms of financial assistance and development of infrastructure.Party president Sharad Yadav and other senior leaders also addressed the rally.

The Congress has rejected Nitish Kumar's allegation that Bihar was discriminated against and ignored by the UPA government. Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed said that no one should play politics on the issue of special status to the state. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning Rajiv Shukla said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is doing justice with all the states irrespective of the party in power.

BJP says, it would have been better had the JD(U) rally been organised under the NDA banner as both JD(U) and BJP have equal participation in development of Bihar. BJP, a key ally was not invited by the JD(U) for the Delhi rally in support of special status to Bihar. Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinhahowever said in Patna that BJP agreed with the demand for special category status to Bihar.

The Department of Telecom, DoT, has asked CDMA telecom operators to pay one-time spectrum fee. This charge has been levied on the operators for the spectrum they hold beyond the initial frequencies that were alloted to them. The DoT in its order has said the charges for holding spectrum above 2.5 Mhz in the 800 Mhz band shall be applicable from first of January this year. As per the order, the charges will be levied on additional spectrum for the rest of the licence period. Operators not willing to pay these charges will be allowed to surrender their spectrum held over 2.5 Mhz. The one-time spectrum fee on all CDMA players cumulatively amounts to around 3,033 crore rupees.

In Madhya Pradesh, at least 11 people were killed in different parts of the state in the incidents of lightning last night. Four people were killed in Sagar district while two each killed in Rajgarh and Bhopal district. Three other persons were killed in Raisen, Damoh and Tikamgarh district. Several places including capital Bhopal and Indore received unseasonal rains and thundershowers.

In Madhya Pradesh, police have arrested six persons in Datia’s Swiss woman rape case. IG Chambal Range M S Afzal today informed in Datia that police have recovered mobile and laptop of Swiss couple.
Police had detained about twenty people for questioning yesterday. Most of them have now been freed. A Swiss woman was gang-raped by seven men in the Datia district Friday late night. The woman was cycling along with her husband from Orchha to Agra. The couple was camping near Jhadia village when seven men looted them and raped the woman. This incident has dented Madhya Pradesh’s image as growing tourist hub.
Meanwhile, Switzerland says it is profoundly shocked by the gangrape. Bern has demanded that those responsible for the tragic incident be quickly identified and punished.
The Union Ministry of Commerce has approved SEZ status for the proposed IT city in Lucknow. It will be the first SEZ in the state capital of UP. The IT infrastructure zone is proposed on 100-acre land on Lucknow-Sultanpur highway, to boost IT investment in the state.

Income tax department offices across the country will remain open on March 30 and 31 for taxpayers who want to file their returns and conduct other tax related businesses.The central board of direct taxes, CBDT has taken the measure as the last two days of the month are Saturday and Sunday.Also, March 27 and 29 are holidays owing to Holi and Good Friday and the offices would be closed then.The CBDT has also asked all the chief commissioners of tax collection ranges to open additional counters to facilitate the taxpayers who would file their I-T returns for the 2012-13 fiscal.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram will meet heads of public sector banks tomorrow. The agenda includes direct benefit transfer, deteriorating asset quality and credit growth. The high-profile meeting will be held a day before mid-quarter review of monetary policy by RBI. The meeting is also likely to review banks' system and procedure to check money laundering in the light of a recent sting operation allegedly showing some officials of three private banks indulging in such activities.

In Pakistan, unknown men blew up a natural gas pipeline near Goth Peeru Bugti area of Jaffarabad district. Gas supply to Karachi was suspended and a large portion of gas pipeline was damaged in the blast. In another incident, unnknown militants set off an explosive device early today morning damaging four CD shops in Mattani area in the outskirts of Peshawar.
Three armed insurgents were killed and 20 others arrested during joint security operations by Afghan and the international forces in different provinces of Afghanistan within the past 24 hours. A press release issued by the Afghan Interior Ministry in Kabul today said the joint operations against the insurgents were conducted in eight provinces.

North Korea today said it would never trade its nuclear weapons programme for aid and stressed its unshakeable stance to retain the deterrent. In a statement carried by State TV, the North's foreign ministry rejected suggestions that Pyongyang was using its weapons programme as a way of bullying neighbours into offering much-needed aid.The comments came days after the US National Security Advisor Tom Donilon said Washington was willing to hold authentic negotiations with the North if it changed its behaviour.

Nepal’s President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav approves the ordinance on the Constitutional Council regulations (first amendment) Ordinance paving the way for making appointments to vacant Constitutional bodies without parliamentary hearings. According to a release from President’s office , this has been done in accordance with Article 88 (1) of Interim Constitution. Key positions in the constitutional bodies including Election Commission, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority are vacant as the President had not signed the ordinance forwarded by the former Baburam Bhattarai government due to lack of political consensus after the dissolving of the Constituent Assembly in May last year.
