Finance Minister P Chidambaram today inaugurated 300 new public sector bank branches through virtual mode in Lucknow. This is the first bunch of the 3000 new branches of thirty nationalized banks which are scheduled to be opened upto March 2014 in Uttar Pradesh to cover the very backward areas having minorities, scheduled castes and backward section of society. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chidambaram said, it is a big leap towards Financial Inclusion of the farmers, women and marginalized sections of society in a state. He termed the move as a major catalyst which will put impetus into the financial growth of the citizens and the state.
The right to a loan is as much right as a right to free speech, as a right to live anywhere in India. A farmer has a right to get a loan so that he can grow a crop. I want all the people of India to believe that if you are eligible, if you are qualified, if you have the capacity to repay, you have a right to get a loan and the bankers have a duty to give that loan.
