Assam floods: PM assures CM of all central help

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi of all central help as flood situation in the state deteriorating.

According to PMO sources the Prime Minister inquired about the latest on the flood situation during the telephonic talks with the Assam Chief Minister today.

Assam's flood situation is critical with 11 districts being inundated by the swollen Brahmaputra and its tributaries affecting over one lakh people.

The 11 affected districts are Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Chirang, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur,
Morigaon and Sibsagar.
4 killed in UP road accident

In Uttar Pradesh four persons including driver of a stationed truck and his helpers were crushed to death today in Chandauli district under Kotwali police station on GT road.

Five policemen critically injured in this accident when a speeding truck hit a police jeep. They have been admitted at district hospital in critical condition.


Former Delhi police Chief KK Paul becomes new Meghalaya Governor

In Meghalaya, former Delhi police Chief, Dr KK Paul today took over as the new Governor of Meghalaya, after he was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, T Meena Kumari at a simple function held at the Durbal Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

Dr KK Paul later expressed happiness over taking over as the new Governor of Meghalaya and he said that he would try his best to fulfill the aspirations of the people during his tenure as the Governor.
President on two day visit to Rajasthan from tomorrow

President Pranab Mukherjee will pay a two day visit to Rajasthan from tomorrow.

Mr. Mukherjee will attend the Convocation of Central University of Rajasthan at Kishangarh on the same day.

According to an official release He will attend the Convocation of Malaviya National Institute of Technology at Jaipur and First Convocation of IIT, Jodhpur on wednesday.

Govt to distribute 20,000 solar lanterns free of cost in U’khand

Government will distribute 20 thousand solar lanterns free of cost to the people in the flash flood hit Uttarakhand. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has decided to sanction four crore forty lakh rupees for the state in this regard.

Our correspondent reports that the lanterns would provide lights in the far-flung and badly affected areas which have been totally cut-off from the grid and where the repair of grid lines would take several months.
