Winter Session of Parliament begins; Both Houses adjourned after obituary references |

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day today on the opening day of the winter session. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned after paying respects to two sitting members who died during the inter-session period -Murarilal Singh of the Lok Sabha and Mohan Singh of the Rajya Sabha. Obituary references were also made to 12 former members in both Houses.In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari also made a reference to noted singer Manna Dey who passed away on the 24th of October.
The Presiding Officers of both Houses also referred to the loss of lives in the recent cyclones hitting Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and the stampede near Ratangarh temple in Madhya Pradesh.
They also made a reference to the loss of lives in a terrorist attack in Nairobi, Kenya in September, in which four Indian nationals were killed and six others injured.The two Houses expressed sympathy for victims of the large scale devastation caused by super typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. In the Lok Sabha,Speaker Meira Kumar made a specific reference to the naxal attack in Aurangabad district of Bihar last Sunday in which seven persons were killed. |
