BJP prime-ministerial candidate Narendra  Modi today  criticised Congress President Sonia Gandhi over her 'Zeher ki Kheti' barb and alleged that it is the Congress which spews poison and indulges in divisive politics. Addressing a rally at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh today, Modi accused Congress of driving a wedge between states and communities and referred to the Telangana issue saying that the whole of Andhra Pradesh is engulfed in a fire because of the way Congress had handled the issue. He said that he had made Gujarat free of riots and would make Uttar Pradesh also riot-free if his party is voted to power.
BJP believe in peace , unity, brotherhood and sadbhavana. Does UP want to be riot free ? Believe in us and we promise you that we will give a riot free state.
Modi's counter-attack on the Congress came a day after Sonia Gandhi at a rally in Karnataka had accused Modi and BJP of indulging in divisive politics by sowing seeds of poison  and instigating violence in their "hunger" for power. He also attacked the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and the AAP government in Dehi and sought a mandate for his party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

NCP President Sharad Pawar today said the issue of seat sharing with Congress for the upcoming general elections will be resolved in next 10 days. In a tweet, Mr Pawar said talks are on in a cordial manner and his party colleague Praful Patel has not given any ultimatum to the Congress in this regard. He said the country needs a stable government and claimed that Aam Aadmi Party will have no impact on Lok Sabha poll outcomes.
Responding to a query during a press conference at Kolhapur in Maharashtra today, the NCP chief said there was no need for further debate once courts had ruled on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's role during the 2002 riots. He reiterated the stand taken recently by his party colleague Praful Patel that any judicial pronouncement on Modi's alleged involvement in the post-Godhra riots should be accepted. Patel said NCP will not question it further.

The ruling AIADMK  in Tamil Nadu and CPI have announced their decision to enter into an alliance ahead of the coming Lok Sabha polls. The announcement was made  by AIADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha at a press conference in Chennai today.
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United), which walked out of NDA last year, has said taht it will strive for formation of a Third Force though there are internal contradictions.
In an interview to a news agency, party President Sharad Yadav scotched speculation of JD (U) aligning with the BJP again after the Lok Sabha polls, saying the parting of ways happened on ideological issues and there is no question of their joining hands again. He also ruled out any truck with Congress in the next Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress today said that party Vice President Rahul Gandhi's experiment of choosing Congress candidates for Lok Sabha polls in over 15 constituencies with direct feedback on the lines of US primaries will continue notwithstanding some initial hiccups. Stating this in New Delhi today party spokesman Ajay Maken  insisted that the new process is in line with Rahul Gandhi's focus on opening the system by ending the high command culture and empowering the grass-root workers.

Lone Janata Dal (United) MLA Shoaib Iqbal has given a 48-hour ultimatum to the Delhi government to meet his demands on issues such as slashing power and water bills, women's security and fair probe into the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Iqbal claimed that people were not with the AAP anymore.
Meanwhile,  expelled AAP leader Vinod Kumar Binny said he had the support of four legislators, including Iqbal and Independent legislator Rambeer Shaukin.

The Department of Telecom will conduct Spectrum auction tomorrow. Eight companies  including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and  Reliance Infocom will battle it out at the auction.The Department of Telecom has put on the block around 385 MHz of radiowaves in the 1800 MHz band, and 46 MHz in the 900 MHz band. The third round of spectrum auction follows a Supreme Court order in 2G case directing that all the radiowaves freed from the cancellation of 122 licences in February 2012 should be auctioned.
This time , Telecom authority  has fixed the base price for sale of spectrum in the 1800 Mhz band for pan-India at  1,765 crore rupees per MHz, about 26 percent lower than in the March sale.  The government is hopeful that all the spectrum put on auction table would be sold out.

In a special hearing today the Supreme Court  allowed the Centre to go ahead with the auction of spectrum while rejecting any interim relief to telecom companies who sought a stay on the auction.
The government expects a minimum of 11,300 crore rupees in upfront payments from the auction of airwaves, which are worth about 49,000 crore rupees at the base price.

In Assam, security forces have arrested two cadres of banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) along with a linkman in Sonitpur district in connection with the killing of Additional SP Guljar Hussein. Official sources said that militants killed 2 persons including the Additional SP on 28th of January at Dhekiajuli . Sources said that the arrested militants were involved in the ambush while the linkman provided shelter to militants to carry out the operation.

The Arunachal Pradesh Government has announced ex-gratia payment of three lakh rupees each for those killed and 50 thousand rupees each to the seriously injured in the Tarasso incident on Wednesday.Chief Minister Nabam Tuki ordered Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner for disbursement of payment. He also appealed to the Union Home Minister to have an independent investigation.
Ten CPI(ML) supporters were killed and eight others injured when unidentified persons from Arunachal Pradesh attacked the CPI(ML) men at Chaulduha in Assam's Sonitpur district on January 29.

Twelve Indian sailors from Gujarat who went missing after their dhow cargo boat sank off the coast of southeast Yemen’s Hadramout province are safe. They are being brought from the north eastern village of  Shehr to Al Makalla port in Yemen. Indian Embassy officials in Sanaa told AIR a short while ago that all 12 sailors and the boat were from Gujarat and the boat was carrying truck chassis parts. It ran aground in the high tides only to be found after some time. Yemeni authorities said that the members would be interrogated for illegal cargo activity being undertaken by them. Earlier reports had suggested that the the cargo boat sank off the coastal City of Shehr, leaving 12 Indian sailors missing.

Mauritanian Prime Minister Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf  and his entire cabinet has resigned. State-run news agency, AMI said, the reason for mass resignations is not clearly known. Prime Minister Laghdaf  had been in his post since 2009.

Thailand voted today under heavy security in snap elections amid boycott calls from the opposition. There were no reports of major violence during the polls that ended this afternoon. Polling was relatively peaceful. Officials, however, said anti-government protesters disrupted the voting at 127 out of 375 constituencies nationwide. The polling was cancelled in most areas of the southern region and in many constituencies in Bangkok.  The counting, which began  immediately after the voting, is in progress.
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that  museums should play the role of institution of learning and important tourist destination. Inaugurating the bi-centenary celebrations of Indian Museum in Kolkata this morning, Dr. Singh said that it is not enough in today's world to house a collection.
"A museum needs to document, study and analyse its own collections, make comparisons with similar collections held elsewhere and build up collaborations with other great museums whose collections reflect and shed light on what it holds."
Dr. Singh unveiled the modernised Indian Museum and released a commemorative postage stamp and a monograph on the History of 200 years of Indian Museum.

Karnataka have won the trophy for seventh time.

राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी के अध्यक्ष शरद पवार ने कहा है कि लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए कांग्र्रेस के साथ सीट बटवारे के मुद्दे का समाधान अगले दस दिन में कर लिया जायेगा। श्री पवार ने ट्विटर पर कहा है कि दोनों दलों के बीच सदभावपूर्ण माहौल में बातचीत चल रही है और उनके सहयोगी प्रफुल्ल पटेल ने इस बारे में कांग्रेस को कोई अल्टीमेटम नहीं दिया है।

कांग्रेस ने कहा है कि पंद्रह निर्वाचन क्षेत्रो में लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए उम्मीदवारों का चयन पार्टी उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी अमरीकी प्रक्रिया के अनुसार करेंगे। हालांकि उसमें शुरू में कुछ कठिनाईयां आ सकती है। आज नई दिल्ली में पार्टी प्रवक्ता अजय माकन ने इस बात पर बल दिया कि नई प्रक्रिया प्रगति पर है और इसमें हाईकमान संस्कृति को समाप्त कर निचले स्तर पर कार्यकर्ताओं को शक्ति प्रदान करने पर श्री राहुल गांधी का विशेष बल होगा।

तमिलनाडु में सत्तारूढ़ ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी एम के पार्टी तथा भारतीय +कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने आगामी लोकसभा चुनाव में अपने गठबंधन की घोषणा की है। यह घोषणा आज चेन्नई में एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी एम के अध्यक्ष और मुख्यमंत्री जे जयललिता ने की। उनके साथ भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के नेता ए बी वर्धन और सुधाकर रेड्डी भी थे।

पिछले साल एन डी ए से अलग हुए जनता दल-यूनाईटेड ने कहा है कि वह आंतरिक मतभेदों के बावजूद एक तीसरा मोर्चा बनाने की कोशिश करेगी। पी टी आई के साथ एक इण्टरव्यू में पार्टी अध्यक्ष शरद यादव ने लोकसभा चुनाव के बाद जनता दल-यूनाईटेड के फिर से भारतीय जनता पार्टी में शामिल हो जाने की अटकलों को खारिज कर दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि उनकी पार्टी वैचारिक मुद्दों के आधार पर एन डी ए से अलग हुई थी और फिर से उनके साथ मिलने का कोई सवाल ही नहीं उठता। उन्होंने अगले लोकसभा चुनाव में कांग्रेस के साथ किसी भी प्रकार के गठबंधन की संभावना से इंकार किया।

दिल्ली में अरविन्द केजरीवाल सरकार को समर्थन दे रहे जनता दल-यू विधायक शोएब इकबाल ने अपनी मांगें पूरी करने के लिए दिल्ली सरकार को ४८ घंटे का अल्टिमेटम दिया। दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री शोएब इकबाल ने कहा कि न्यूनतम साझा कार्यक्रम लागू करने के लिए केजरीवाल सरकार को ४८ घंटे का समय दिया गया है।

दूरसंचार विभाग कल स्पेक्ट्रम नीलामी आयोजित करेगा। इसमें भारती एयरटेल, वोडाफोन, रिलायंस, जिओ इन्फोकॉम समेत आठ कंपनियां हिस्सा लेंगी।

दूरसंचार विभाग ने नीलामी में बोली लगाने के लिए एक हजार आठ सौ मेगाहर्ट्‌ज+ में करीब तीन सौ पचासी मेगाहर्ट्ज+ और नौ सौ मेगाहर्ट्‌ज+ बैंड में छियालिस मेगाहर्ट्‌ज+ रेडियोवेव्स रखी हैं। स्पेक्ट्रम नीलामी का यह तीसरा दौर टू जी मामले में उच्चतम न्यायालय के आदेश के बाद आयोजित किया जा रहा है। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने अपने आदेश में फरवरी २०१२ में एक सौ बाईस लाइसेंसों के रद्द हो जाने के कारण मुक्त हुई सभी रेडियोवेव्स की नीलामी के निर्देश दिए थे।

एक विशेष सुनवाई के दौरान उच्चतम न्यायालय ने आज केन्द्र को स्पेक्ट्रम की नीलामी करने की अनुमति दी लेकिन नीलामी पर रोक की मांग करने वाली दूरसंचार कंपनियों को किसी भी प्रकार की अंतरिम राहत देने से इंकार कर दिया।

प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा है कि संग्रहालयों  को ज्ञान अर्जन के संस्थान और महत्वपूर्ण पर्यटक स्थलों  की भूमिका निभानी चाहिए। आज कोलकाता में आधुनिक बनाये गये दो शताब्दी पुराने इंडियन म्यूजि+यम का उद्घाटन करते हुए डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि आज के समय में केवल सामग्री का संग्रह ही पर्याप्त नहीं। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि संग्रहालयों को एक आकर्षक स्थल बनाया जाना चाहिए, जहां आगन्तुक अच्छे माहौल में ज्ञान अर्जित कर सकें।

सरकार ने मंहगाई को देखते हुए इस साल से पहली अप्रैल से मनरेगा की मजदूरी दर बढ़ाने का फैसला किया है। आज नई दिल्ली में नौवें मनरेगा दिवस पर केन्द्रीय ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री जयराम रमेश ने कहा कि इस बारे में अधिसूचना इस सप्ताह शुरू होने वाले सत्र के दौरान संसद में पेश की जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि मनरेगा मजदूरी और न्यूनतम मजदूरी की दरों में समानता होना जरूरी है। उन्होंने कहा कि मनरेगा अधिनियम को लागू करने के लिए संशोधन की जरूरत है और एक विशेषज्ञ समिति इस मामले पर गौर कर रही है।

सरकार ने कहा है कि प्रधानमंत्री रोजगार सृजन कार्यक्रम के तहत बीस लाख से अधिक लोगों को रोजगार प्रदान किया गया है। इस योजना में विनिर्माण क्षेत्र की किसी योजना को पच्चीस लाख रुपए की सहायता प्रदान की जाती है। सेवा क्षेत्र में यह सहायता दस लाख रुपये की होती है। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि २००८-०९ के बाद से इस योजना में पांच हजार करोड़ रुपए से अधिक की राशि जारी की गयी है और दो लाख तैंतीस हजार से अधिक परियोजनाओं को मदद दी गयी है।

यमन के दक्षिण-पूर्वी हादरमौत प्रांत के तट के पास समुद्र में डूबे मालवाहक जहाज गुजरात के लापता बारह भारतीय नाविक सुरक्षित हैं। उन्हें उत्तर पूर्वी गांव शहर से यमन के अल मकाल्ला बंदरगाह पर लाया जा रहा है। सना में भारतीय दूतावास के अधिकारियों ने कुछ देर पहले आकाशवाणी को बताया कि सभी बारह नाविक और जहाज गुजरात का था तथा उसमें ट्रक की चेसिस के हिस्से पुर्जे लदे थे। समुद्री तूफान की वजह से यह जहाज किनारे पर आ लगा जहां इसे कुछ समय बाद देखा गया। यमन के अधिकारियों का कहना है कि इन नाविकों से अवैध माल की ढुलाई के लिए पूछताछ की जाएगी।

थाईलैंड में विपक्षी दलों के चुनावों के बहिष्कार की अपील के बावजूद आज भारी सुरक्षा के बीच संसदीय चुनाव के लिए मतदान हुआ। इस दौरान किसी भी स्थान से बड़ी हिंसा की कोई खबर नहीं है, हालांकि अधिकारियों ने बताया कि देश में ३७५ चुनाव क्षेत्रों में से १२७ में सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शनकारियों ने मतदान में रूकावटें डाली। देश के दक्षिणी भाग और बैंकाक के कई चुनाव क्षेत्रों में मतदान रद्द करना पड़ा।

श्रीलंका की नौसेना द्वारा उन्नीस तमिल मछुआरों और उनकी पांच नौकाओं के पकड़े जाने के कारण तमिलनाडु के रामनाथपुरम और पुडुकोट्टई जिलों के मछुआरों के गांवों में तनाव पैदा हो गया है।

चेन्नई में हाल ही में भारतीय मछुआरों के प्रतिनिधियों और श्रीलंका के बीच सौहार्दपूर्ण वातावरण में बातचीत हुई थी फिर भी श्रीलंका की नौसेना तमिल मछुआरों के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री सीमा पार करते ही उन्हें पकड़ लेती है। इस कारण तमिलनाडु के पुड्डुकोट्टाई और रामनाथपुरम जिलों के मछुआरों के गांवों में तनाव बढ़ गया है। पिछले बृहस्पतिवार को भी श्रीलंका की नौसेना ने रामेश्वरम के ३८ तमिल मछुआरों और उनकी ६ नौकाएं पकड़ ली थी। तमिल मछुआरे समुद्र में जाना भी नहीं छोड़ सकते क्योंकि उनकी आजीविका इसी पर टिकी है। उन्होंने सरकार से श्रीलंका की जेलों में बंद मछुआरों को उनकी नौकाओं सहित रिहा कराने की गुहार लगाई है। त्रिचुरापल्ली से के. देवी पदमनाभन के साथ समाचार कक्ष से मैं योगेन्द्रपाल सिंह

The Rajya Sabha has taken up the Lok pal and Lokayukta bill for discussion. The report of the Rajya Sabha select committee on the bill was laid by Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy in the House. Piloting the bill, Minister of State for Personnel, V Narayanasamy said the present bill has incorporated the recommendations made by the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha. The Union Cabinet had accepted 14 of the 16 recommendations made by the Rajya Sabha Select Committee, which was set up in May last year amid sharp differences among political parties because of which the legislation remained stuck in the Upper House since December 2011. Earlier, the Lokpal Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. As noisy scenes continued by Samajwadi Party members on the price rise issue, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House till 2.30 PM.

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the day following noisy scenes over various issues. Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has alleged that lobbying by MPs for a foreign company should be taken up by the Ethics Committee of Parliament. Mr Tewari was responding to a media query that some MPs were willing to write recommendation letters for a fake foreign oil company for money. The revelations come from news portal Cobrapost which claims that some of the MPs offered to lobby for the company's proposed exploration contracts in the country.

Vasundhara Raje has taken over as Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Governor Margret Alva administered the oath of office and secrecy in Jaipur today. Raje took the oath alone. Many BJP leaders including L.K. Advani, Party President Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister of Gujrat Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh attended the function.

Delhi is moving towards imposition of President's Rule with no party ready to stake claim to form a government for want of numbers. A day after BJP Legislative Party leader Dr Harsh Vardhan conveyed to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung the party's inability to form the government as it lacks a majority in the Assembly, it is now Aam Aadmi party's turn to discuss government formation with the Lt Governor. Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal is likely to meet Najeeb Jung tomorrow amid speculation that he too will decline the offer. Our correspondent reports, senior Aam Aadmi party leaders are meeting today to discuss the future course of action. BJP, which got 31 and Aam Aadmi Party 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, are unable to reach the magic figure of 36 required for government formation.

The Supreme Court grants bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal Chief chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam case. Lalu was convicted in the fodder scam case and sentenced to five years. A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam granted bail after noting that several other similarly placed convicts have already been granted bail in the case. The bench also comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi, however, left it to the trial court CBI, to decide the bail bonds, sureties and other conditions to be imposed on Lalu Prasad Yadav. CBI, which is the prosecuting agency in the case, did not oppose Prasad's bail plea. Lalu Prasad Yadav has already spent 12 months behind bars, including two months of his five-year sentence. The RJD chief, another former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra and 43 others were on September 30th convicted by a special CBI court in the fodder scam case involving fraudulent withdrawal of 37.7 crore rupees from Chaibasa Treasury in Bihar during Lalu Yadav's regime.

The Delhi Police has arrested a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Mohammed Shahid from Mewat in Haryana. Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav told a news agency that Shahid was planning to attack prominent market places in the national capital. His other associates are on the run. Mr Yadav said the terror module of Shahid was spread across Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has said the suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba operative was being trailed for the last one week. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr Shinde applaued the police for their silent work that led to the arrest of the LeT operative.

Visiting Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai held talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi today. The two leaders discussed the entire gamut of bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern. Mr. Karzai's visit comes at a time, when Kabul seeks to enhance economic engagements and security cooperation with New Delhi. The NATO troops are set to completely pull out from Afghanistan by next year. Speaking to a private TV channel, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, urged the Indian business community to come forward and seize the opportunity in the ongoing political and economic transition in his country.

India and the UAE have signed the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, BIPPA. paving the way for further investments in infrastructure sector projects in India and enhancing trade co-operation between the two countries. An agreement to this effect was signed between the visiting UAE foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid in New Delhi. Business leaders from UAE have welcomed the agreement and said it will spur further investments in India. More from our West Asia Correspondent:
"India is the largest trading partner with UAE and the bilateral trade crossed $75 billion in 2012-13. The investments made by Indians in the UAE are estimated to be more than $55 billion. UAE is the tenth largest investor in India with the total investments around $3 billion. UAE promised $2 billion worth investments in the infrastructure sector projects in India in February this year but without much forward movement. At least four people were killed today during clashes between angry Jamaat-e-Islami activists and Awami League supporters across Bangladesh, as executed Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah was buried at his hometown. Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that Sri Lanka will not stop arresting Indian fishermen and will not release Indian fishermen now in custody till India releases Sri Lankan fishermen and stops arresting them. Speaking to the media, Rajitha said that arrangements are in place to take stern legal action against Indian fishermen violating the International Maritime Boundary Line. He added that the number of fishermen who have violated Sri Lanka's maritime boundary is much higher than the number of Sri Lankan fishermen crossing over to the Indian side.

India's Deputy Consul General in New York, Devyani Khobragade was arrested by law enforcement authorities on visa fraud charges and released on a 2 lakh 50 thousand dollars bond after she pleaded not guilty in a court. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange remained weak in afternoon deals, and had lost 180 points, to 20,746 a short while ago. Earlier, in the morning, the Sensex had declined 163 points, on sustained selling by funds and retail investors, after disappointing domestic economic data, and poor global cues. The 30-share Sensex had fallen over 400 points in the previous three trading sessions.

The rupee dropped another 33 paise to 62 rupees 16 paise per dollar in late morning deals today. The Rupee continued its slide for the third day on sustained demand for the American currency from importers. President Pranab Mukherjee today said level playing field and greater autonomy for public sector units will encourage them to get listed in the stock market and improve their performance. Speaking at the Global Public Sector Enterprises, PSEs, Summit in New Delhi, Mr Mukherjee said the listing would allow millions of small and large shareholders to participate in the ownership of state-run firms to stimulate the PSEs to better their performance.
